How could it be possible from receiving a picture all day and then tonight I lose all reception with my tv's now saying searching for satellite signal 771 without touching anything? Is there anything I could do to resolve this or does a dish tv guy have to come out to my house?

    I appreciate any help.

    TIA

if not...reboot...pull your card out...hit the reset button...put the card back in...wait for it to download the guide

It is just lightly snowing but I didn't have any probs with dish when it snowed during the storm last week when it was coming down an inch an hour. So try rebooting?

Ok I did that. Now box is still searching for a signal. Is this normal?

Joker is right....if you don't want to mess with the card, or cannot find it - simply reboot by unplugging the box from the wall for a full minute.

Let us know if it worked.

yeah...reboot...if it doesn't, call tech support FIRST to see if they can resolve it from their end...last resort is a visit from a tech...if you have a new three receptor dish it could be clogged with snow...if it is, try removing the snow gently with a brush if you can reach the dish

heh...yeah...unless you have a sturdy ladder...look at this picture..

    http://www.thesatelliteshop.net/images/2DTV32DDTUBE.jpg

that is an LNB affixed to the front of your dish...there may be multiple LNB's...in any case, if these have snow on them it will knock your reception out...if you see snow on them remove it with a brush or something soft. If the LNB's are clear then you have to check all your connections INSIDE at your box and TV to make sure nothing is loose. Worst case scenario is the box sh!t the bed, in which case you should be able to resolve this issue over the phone and have them send a tech out with a new box.

Is the three receptor thing that looks like a microphone? If so I can't see that but the dish has a lite coating of snow on the bottom of it. I can;t see the receptor if it the mic looking thing.

I can't clean it cause it's on the roof. I was told a guy can't get out to the house until Monday. Is the a way this could resolve itself before then? I don't want to miss the f'ing game on sunday on my 52" TV.

By the way does this happen often with dishes. I've only had mine 6 months and this is the 1st time happening. Please let me know.

it happens to me occasionally...especially during ice storms or heavy snow. From what you say, I'm guessing the LNB's have snow covering them.

if it gets warmer the snow will melt off the LNB's and you should be good to go. Good luck.

i guess i have to wait until the guy comes out then cause my house is on a hill and there is snow all around the area where my dish is. Do you think these a chance it could melt and I'll be able to receive reception again? Thanks for all your help Joker. I muchly appreciate it.

This may be a stupid question that you have already checked out, but do any of the TVs hooked up to it work?
I've had Directv for abuot 3 years, and have about 2 cases of 2 minutes a piece where the weather had any effect at all.
I have however had cases where one of the TVs has issues. If its only one, check the splitter connection in your basement. Otherwise you can unplug the receiver from the wall, and wait a minute then plug back in. Turning the power off doesnt do it. Taking out the card and replacing it may help too.

If its all of the TVs then it is is probably the dish being obscured by snow.
But you can go into setup and have it search for the satellite signal. It has maybe 20 'channells' (cant remember the term in uses) and it will test the signal on each.

Hope that works for you. Otherwise, I would keep asking for supervisors until someone comes out tonight or tomorrow. If you bltch to a high enough level, you can usually get what you want.

By the way, I had mine mounted in the yard rather than on the roof, just in case I ever had an issue so I wouldnt need to climb up on the roof. They can pretty much put it anywhere as long as there is access to the southern sky. If you have a smaller yard and lots of tall trees, though it may not work. I believe they will come out and move it for free if you ask them.

no, it's the whole piece...that one is a single LNB...you could have a new dish in which case you'll see two or three of those at the bottom of the front of the dish. If you can't see them, it's covered with snow and THAT is your problem. You could try to hose it down and melt the snow if you still have your outside water turned on, which I doubt, right?

Water is off for winter but I could turn it back on tomorrow. I leave hose connected all year to spout. Would hosing it help? It suppose to be a high of 30 tomorrow so I assume if i try that it could freeze.

Oh, the bottom of the appendage is the lnb fixture ok. I'll look tomorrow during the day lite to see if I can see it. If I cant see it try hosing it? I tried going through the menu and testing the satellite for reception on my downstairs tv and i was getting all 0's if you know what I mean. I think reception needs to be between 80-100. Thanks again guys. If you can think of anything else to try please let me know.
