Filed to ESPN: Raiders informed Tom Cable they will not pick up the option in his contract. He no longer is the Raiders head coach.

Adam Schefter (AdamSchefter) on Twitter

The guy gets them to .500 for the first time since 2002, and his reward is getting the axe.

Gotta love Al.

What else is Al Davis going to do?

Dementia in Latin translates to swiss cheese of the brain.

He had Seymour. How could he be fired??????

Lawrence Maroney's head coach got fired too this year????

Randy Moss got (soon to be) TWO head coaches fired in one year!!!!

Damn, Belichick knows what he's doing! ;)

At least Lawyer Milloy's team "made" it to the playoffs. :D

In all seriousness, that team went 6-0 vs. their division which probably says more about the quality of the AFC West than anything else.

u gotta love Al, unless its ur team he owns

Why would ANYONE want to coach there now? What a joke of a franchise.

Potential replacements that have been rumored as possibilities so far:

Hue Jackson, the current O.C.

Josh McDaniels

I posted it in the thread about the Bengals keeping Lewis for another 2 years, but the league really needs to demand some minimum level of competence out of owners.

The only way I can see McDaniels going there is if nobody is giving him any bites as a coordinator somewhere else.

offer them pick #33 for a 2012 first rounder plus a 2012 3rd rounder.

Nice doin' business, Al...

If McDaniels goes to work for Al Davis, I want to see that as a reality show.

Well, given that the 49ers asked for permission to interview Jackson earlier today, my guess is that Jackson has the inside track for the job right now.

They should go hire Rob Ryan, one Ryan isn't enough. Would be really entertaining to watch the jets-raiders game next year. At least somebody in the AFC needs to hire that guy.

It could be that Al thought the coordinators had more to do with the success of the team than the HC. SF was looking to interview Hue Jackson, so it forced Al to make his move now or potentially lose the guy he saw as the main reason for the relatively successful season.

I am just speculating, but that, at least, makes a modicum of sense.

Cable getting gassed came a year too late for us. They'll be back down to a 4-5 win team next year. .500 is an aberation which sucks because we only got the # 17 pick out of them this year. Next year the Raiders will be picking top 5-6, just like last year.

Actually, I heard it was a money issue. Cable was due a raise of 2mill I think.

I'm looking forward to when Al Davis moves the Raiders to Somalia, makes the team play as the pirates with their home ground an abandoned oil tanker off the African coast.
