Its a crap shoot on draft picks for any teams but to miss on a #4 really hurts. We complain about misssing on a high 1st rounder or a 2nd but Tampa blew it here. We still get upset over Chad Jackson. This board would crash if we missed on a pick that high!

BB has the right idea on trading down for value. Its 2 years away but I can't see us using the Raiders pick if its # 3 or 4 without trading down.

If BB sees a "can't-miss" prospect at #4, he'd take him.

More importantly, though, if there's a rookie cap in 2010 that means that they get #4 talent for, say, Jerod Mayo money. . . . :D

I'm with you on a rookie cap. It woud be great but if he can get more picks, he loves to trade down.

Bucs did well to get a draft pick for him, a lot of teams get nothing when they miss a pick (see Jackson, Chad).

Does this mean that Chicago now does not have a pick until the third round next year?

Re: Ot ...Bucks trade #4 overall pick to the Bears

Adams has been a big disappointment for Tampa Bay this year. Prior to this he's been okay but he never lived up to his draft status, exacerbated by the success of Adrian Peterson and Patrick Willis in the eyes of Bucs fans; Peterson was taken three picks later and Willis seven picks later.

Tampa Bay has a new coach and new GM and although they have never said so, it's been obvious since their lack of movement in last spring's free agent market that 2009 was a throwaway year with an eye on 2010 or beyond.

Not that it was needed, but this news should help the Pats a little bit next week in London. They already had depth issues on both lines even before the trade.

Chicago may see themselves in a bit more of a win-now situation after trading for Cutler. The NFC North may be an interesting division to watch this year between the Bears, Vikings and Packers.

That guy was an epic failure in Tampa Bay.

Hmmm.. I can't think of any other teams that could use some pass rush help... I would give up one of the Pats 2nd rounders for someone as talented as Adams.

There will not be a rookie cap in 2010. That's been announced. Before they get a rookie cap they need to negotiate a CBA, far enough in advance of the draft. Earliest it could happen is 2011.

Should have seen it coming; the trade somehow validates BB's greatness.

Somebody at Rotoworld doesn't like Tampa Bay's defensive coordinator: Gaines Adams

Re: Ot ...Bucks trade #4 overall pick to the Bears

Hmmmm, I somewhat doubt he would have found a home in New England (that is, if people were entertaining the idea of why didn't the Patriots trade for him). I don't know if he's got the skillset to stand up as a LB...in a 3-4 if that's the way BB truly wants to roll.

I suppose if he decided to go full-out 4-3, then Adams could have been worth a look.

All depends what BB's most committed to...if anything!

    No Jersey Selected

Should we give him a loo... oh wait, nevermind, he went to the Bears.

I wonder how he would have done if he would have gone to a 3-4 defense.

    #54 Jersey

Re: Ot ...Bucks trade #4 overall pick to the Bears

That is ridiculous, he may not be a pure OLB but either was Vrabel or McGinest. He is a player with high upside and is cheap. Great deal for the Bears. Fans tend to overrate draft picks, there were people whining when the Pats traded a 2nd for Welker. Look at the Pats 2nd rounders, Bethel Johnson, Chad Jackson, etc. the success rate is 50% that the player even becomes an average starter.

    Salary info:
    2009: $900,000, 2010: $1.08 million, 2011: $1.1 million, 2012: $1.15 million, 2013:
    Gaines Adams

Look at the junk the Patriots have at OLB/DE:
    • TBC - JAG, free agent after this season
    • Burgess - washed up hack, free agent after this season
    • Green - JAG, pushing 30, free agent after this season
    • Woods - not even good enough to be a JAG, free agent after this season (might be an RFA)
    • Guyton - solid player, not proven at OLB
    • Thomas - over 30, under achiever, salary of greater than 9.5M for the next two seasons
    • Ninkovich - should be a grocery clerk some where
Stack Adams up against that pile of junk and he may even be the cream of the crop. Putting the list down, actually typing it out really hurts. I doubt that there is a less talented group of OLB/DEs in the NFL. No wonder the pass rush stinks.

WOAH. What a cheap contract for a guy who still has HUGE upside. Wow.

Chicago now does not have a pick in the 2010 draft until the third round.

Denver has their 1st round pick from the Cutler trade.
Tampa now has their 2nd round pick.

I would offer them one of our 2nd round picks for their 1st in 2011.

    #3 Jersey

Meaning we would have 3 first rounders in 2011, and we know how BB likes to trade down, so we could end up with 20 picks ;)

    Then we trade the Bears #1 in 20011, for a #2 in 2011 & a #1 in 2012.
This is what we got from Baltimore when we let them trade up to draft
Kyle Boller a few years back.

Re: Ot ...Bucks trade #4 overall pick to the Bears

Adams came out of college having played BOTH DE in the 4-3 and OLB in the 3-4. I followed him for 2 years hoping he'd fall to the Pats because he's got the skills to fit into the Pats system. He didn't and went 4th overall to the Bucs who really REACHED for him. Most people thought Adams was a mid 1st round pick.

With the Bears getting Adams, I wonder if Mark Anderson is available. He'd be a great addition to the Pats as a 4-3 DE.
