Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55

    03/09/2007 8:31 PM, AP

Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55. Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.

Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said.

The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday.

Delp sang vocals on Boston's 1976 hits "More than a Feeling" and "Longtime." He also sang on Boston's most recent album, "Corporate America," released in 2002.

He joined the band in the early 1970s after meeting Tom Scholz, an MIT student interested in experimental methods of recording music, according to the group's official Web site. The band enjoyed its greatest success and influence during its first decade.

The band's last appearance was in November 2006 at Boston's Symphony Hall.

On Friday night, the Web site was taken down and replaced with the statement: "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

A call to the Swampscott, Mass., home of Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau was not immediately returned Friday night.

    That sucks.

Is there a better song for driving down the highway with the windows open when the first warm day of spring comes than "More than a feeling"? I know it's hokey and all, but that song hits a nerve for me.

I loved Boston. They were the soundtrack for my high school years. EVERYONE had the Boston 8-track in their Camaro.

    Damn. :(

Nope, unless it's Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf. Tough one about the Boston guy. They had a great sound back then.

"Spirit of Radio" by Rush.... The lyrics really capture the moment....

    Begin the day
    With a friendly voice
    A companion, unobtrusive
Plays that song thats so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood

    Off on your way
    Hit the open road
There is magic at your fingers
    For the spirit ever lingers
    Undemanding contact
    In your happy solitude

    Invisible airwaves
    Crackle with life
    Bright antennae bristle
    With the energy
    Emotional feedback
    On a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price ---
    Almost free...

    All this machinery
    Making modern music
    Can still be open-hearted
    Not so coldly charted
    Its really just a question
    Of your honesty

    One likes to believe
    In the freedom of music
    But glittering prizes
    And endless compromises
    Shatter the illusion
    Of integrity

For the words of the profits
Are written on the studio wall,
    Concert hall ---
    Echoes with the sounds...
    Of salesmen.

Best concert I ever saw. And yeah, I had their 8-track in my '68 Mustang.

It was a little shocking to see that on the 11 O'clock news. As I posted on another forum (and has been said in this thread) I don't think there is anyone in their 40s that doesn't have a memory associated with this song. No more dancing in the streets of Hyannis.

Those of you who were fellow Patriots-Titans "ice bowl" attendees will remember they played before the game including singing the national anthem. I remember thinking how cold it must have been to play the guitar:eek:

Probably the best metal singer ever in terms of range.

I'm not so shocked over this since Joe Strummer's death a few years ago prepared me for the fact that I'm getting older, and people who have a decade on me are dying.

That's a good one, too. Right up there, but I hold my ground on with Boston.
Another good one is "The Breeze" by Skynyrd, but you have to be in a pickup truck or a '69 Charger.

That is a shocker, I loved the band. Their first album is the only album that I have had in LP, 8-track, cassette and CD. RIP Brad yours was one of the best voices I ever heard.
The best riding song is Flirtin' With Disaster but that depends how fast you are going.

Great songs by the way Golden Earring had another great song called Twilight Zone(when the bullet hits the bone) about 10 years after Radar Love.

    Very sad news.

I've always wanted to say, however, that having lived on Cape Cod for 13 years growing up, I NEVER saw anyone dancing in the streets of Hyannis.
