All the software you need is already on your machine (assuming you have windows).

-Run your video and pause it where you want
-make sure your video player is the active window
-Hit alt+print screen (this will put a "picture" of your current window onto your clip board)
-Open MSpaint (go to start, run, type "mspaint")
    -Edit,paste (or ctrl-v)
-you will see your the "picture" of your screen inside MSpaint
-now use "select" (little square box icon) to grab what you want and paste that into another now mspaint screen.
    -save as a .jpg

It's not as complicated as it sounds.

    GO PATS

You don't need the alt+, just print screen will work.

Quicktime will export a still, JPG, PNG, etc. of a frame from a video. It might only be Quicktime Pro, though. But if it's not QT Pro and just any Quicktime, you open the video with Quicktime, go to "file", then "export" and then in the settings select "movie to picture" and then pick the kind of image you want.

Alt makes it capture just the active window versus the whole screen, and there's no difference if the active window is maximized.
