With Crable and Burgess gone, many players have a greater shot to make the roster. I think nine linebackers is likely, so that choices are Murrell, Williams, Alexander and Fletcher.

I suspect a player off the waiver wire is a strong possibility.

Who is your choice?

Good topic.

Is Burgess officially done? My assumption is yes, but I have not seen a statement from the team (been travelling so it's plausible that I missed it).

In the end, I think BB's decision-making will be predicated on the development of Cunningham. If the kid is picking up the D at an accelorated pace, BB make roll with it. If not, may see a trade for a vet or a FA signing.

Either way, the team still has pass rush needs and none of the players above are impactful in that role IMO.

Burgess is not officially done. He has simply not shown up and has indicated that he is contemplating retirement. While it is not unusual for a veteran to want to skip two a day practices and come in late, I suspect that Burgess is gone since it is clear that Belichick was surprised by the actions of Burgess. In the past, veterans have let the FO know the situation and then show up a month late.

BTW, I have do not have a problem with veterans skipping the early part of camp. It is the kids that need the camp reps.

I keep seeing this Williams kid - everywhere I look at a camp. He is on teams, at LB, in the backfield,I think he was even long snapping one day.

If he keeps this up, and can show up when he gets a chance at the upcoming scrimages and games -- he very well may play his way onto this team

Williams has also been taking reps at fullback. He does indeed seem to be the perfect Player #53.

You described why it's really unlikely that Burgess comes to camp and makes the team. Still, I took the Burgess vote as a longshot.

What I'd LOVE to see is Burgess return next week, play decently and then get cut, not out of spite, but because them young'uns actually beat him out. I can fantasize, can't I?
