A few years ago, Osama bin Laden said that the way to defeat the US was to get us to spend $400 billion/year or more. Now, thanks to the Republicans, he's off in some cave gloating. The Repubilcans have weakened the United States in every respect. It will take years to undo the damage. At any rate, we'll now be like many poorer countries, a place where wealthy Europeans and Asians go for cheap vacations.

Opponents Of U.S. Gloat Over Fiscal Crisis, Mideast Hardliners Call Wall St. Meltdown Divine Retribution For U.S.'s Past Misdeeds Against Muslims - CBS News

merica's opponents in the Middle East are gloating over the financial meltdown in the United States, painting it as divine retribution for past misdeeds against Muslims and the last gasps of a dying empire.

Hardline clerics across the region and groups like Hamas and al Qaeda took delight in America's financial woes even though it has not left the region unscathed, with stock markets across the Middle East dropping more than 10 percent last week.

"We are witnessing the collapse of the American Empire," Hamas prime minister in the Gaza Strip, Ismail Haniyeh, told worshippers during Friday prayers. "What's going on in America is a result of the violation of the rights of people in Palestine, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Muslims around the world."

And Patters dances in celebration. Meanwhile those Obama tax increases and tax cuts on those who pay no taxes are going to help this situation.

Patters forgets that Bush had to keep going back to Congress for more $$$. So Bush would look away while they stuffed those funding bills full of pork so democrats would fund the war. Another example of shallow thread posting ... not thinking before posting. The gloating is correct ... but to blame this upon republicans only is missing the mark.

That's your own perverse projection of what you would do if the situation was reversed, but you have not an iota of evidence to support that insulting claim about me.

That remains to be seen, but yes I think they will help. I'm wondering if it may be necessary to have an asset tax on the extraordinarily wealthy. (I think it was Donald Trump who once proposed a one time such tax to get rid of the federal deficit.)

It's clearly the Republicans fault. They had complete power for 6 years of Bush's term, and the Democrats never had the power to override a Bush veto or a Republican filibuster, so the most the Democrats could do was take measured steps. If the Democrats were in power, we might face the same type of crisis, but the burden would have been distributed differently, and we certainly would not be as disliked by the Middle East and the international community as much as we are disliked now.

Your response ignores the fact that our Middle East problems, including the costs, were created by the Republicans. Think your answers through before accusing others of being shallow.
