Like all of you, I am nervous about Moss leaving. Waking up and seeing Moss signs mega-deal with ^%$#W! But, the more I think about it, the less it makes sense of that happening.

For the following reasons, I don't see him leaving.

    1) Tom Brady would have a sh!t fit if he left. Brady has restructered his deal year after year, taking less than he should get for the purpose of being able to add players to help the team. If the Pats let Randy walk, Brady might reconsider what he was doing all these years.

    2) There are NO actual or rumored deals offered from anyside from any team. The big money is usually thrown around after the first few days, and that time is coming to an end. Where are the offers? We always here rumored visit to team x y and z, but none for Randy. We haven't heard anything from anyside.

    3) Which leads to the fact that knowing Randy's past, if NE was letting him go, you'd think we would hear some stuff saying Randy is open to highest bidder.

    4) The "rumors" out there are BS. Him to Dallas, Philly, wherever are pipedreams. TO and Moss, okay sure. Complete BS.

    5) The other rumors of him talking to Culpepper and so on, when was the last time Michael Clayton was right? The cryptkeeper knowns nothing. I called the 1-800-patsrumors numbers and I got the Pats where going after Lavar Arrington. Idiot.

    6) Why would Moss leave? He has Tom Brady, contending team, number 1 receiver. A team that backs him no matter what.

    7) Would the Pats not franchise Moss and lose him?

Which leads me to my theory. Moss wanted more guaranteed money than the Pats offered, but there are no bigger deals or any offers with contending teams, and Moss is trying to holdout and see if an offer comes. If it doesn't, he will sign with the Pats. The Pats on the otherhand, if push comes to shove, will poney up the money.

First of all, Brady hasn't been taking pay cuts... he's been restructuring salary as guaranteed money in previous years, providing cap savings but not affecting his pocketbook.

And aside from the notion that Brady would somehow threaten the front office, doing so would not affect what Moss himself wants to do.

As to your other points, its been illustrated ad naseum why there were long-term negative consequences to the Patriots not franchising Moss. I'll not go into them here, but suffice to say, Belichick did not go insane overnight. The short term benefit of tagging Moss was outweigned by far by the negative aspects of killing our ability to attract players of Moss's caliber for short term prove it deals in the future.

As to the BS rumors, they might be BS, but until he signs here there's just as much of a chance he'll sign with 31 other teams. Logic doesn't allow us to think because rumors are BS that means he'll re-sign here.

In the end, I think Moss is increasingly being viewed as a flake and a liar given the fact that his statements of wanting to win above all else and stay with Brady and the Pats were clearly BS... and at the end of the day GMs are going to think twice to shelling out $30 - $50 million for a guy who will likely revert to the ways of Raider Randy.

I agree too. I've had to stop looking at this board because of all the chicken littles going nuts. This is all posturing in my opinion with Randy just trying to maximize how much he gets in what could be his final big time money contract.

Has Moss said anything? Do we have any clue as to what is going on in the negotiations? Accusing Moss of posturing without one piece of evidence or one quote from the parties involved is as bad imo as all the mindless speculation from Espn, etc. and their various unnamed sources about where he's going.

Is it that hard to wait and see??

Brady probably would be upset if Moss left, but when has the Pats FO listened to Brady on personnel decisions. If you recall Brady wanted Branch back, and look what happened there.

Losing Moss would be big, but the Pats FO is not the type that is going to get intimidated and overpay.

The way I see it is, over the years they have let go of many key players and Moss although a great talent is no exception.

He sure did say all of those things, repeatedly since the day he got here......was he joking, lying, posturing, kidding and simply not serious.

If he never meant what he said, then I will feel he planned this get rich scheme from day one.

Maybe it will be successful and further line his already gold pockets with even more cash and serious cash at that, but he will always go down in my mind as a first class, lying money grabbing disingenuous scumbag - not for the big payday, but for the way he went about it.

Well someone with some knowledge of what is going on is saying something to the press, namely John Clayton - who has broken every single bit of new information. It's not Randy himself but I think it's safe to say that probably his agent is leaking this stuff in an effort to make the Pats think he could leave. I'm not accusing Moss of anything negative. This is how negotiations happen. This will probably be his last big contract and he wants to get as much out of the Pats as he can. I just can't see him turning his back on something that could be as special as we've already seen Brady-to-Moss can be. Imagine year two with every offensive starter returning. If I'm wrong then I'm not sure how much I really want him on the Pats anyway.

I gotta say, my opinion has definately changed on this matter since FA has started. At first I thought we'd be fine without breaking the bank for Moss, but after seeing some of these ridiculous contracts for average at best players, I really feel we've GOT to dish whatever it takes to get Moss. F***ing RANDALL GAY just inked for abt $4.5M per, the cash we save without signing Moss might get us 1 or 2 solid contributors IF that.... there's no guarantees. Lock up Brady-Moss and build the rest through the draft, I don't want any part of free agency!

The greatest evidence is that there are no offers and Moss hasn't even said he's VISITING another team.

There is absolutely no evidence that Moss is entertaining leaving the Pats except for "rumors".

Moss is already a signed Patriot, and has been for some time.

Moss + BB + Pioli are just dragging a formal announcement out in order to gain leverage in other FA discussions.
