Did I just hear on NFL that we Only have 5 picks next year?

If this is true, BB will surely be trading back.
    Hope I heard wrong.

    Yup: 7 rounds, five picks.

And Kraft has already indicated that we will be trading for more picks, although some posting here think that this is a huge mistake.

I wish NFLN would say that just a little differently and stop freaking Pats fans out.

We don't have a 6th or 7th next year. Big whoop!

IIRC we went into the 2009 draft with zero 3rd round picks. We ended up with two 3rds that year and additional picks for 2010.

Plus, we commonly get awarded 6th or 7th round comp picks.

What I wish we would do but never will is

Trade up our 6 picks and get 3/4 solid players.

FYI- They still curse us here in Charlotte as we have their 2nd round pick. lol

This is exactly correct. pats have picks 1-5, but no 6 or 7. Who cares? They have a boatload this year. I know they will like trade for another 2012, but some day they should cash in on the picks!!

I vote mistake. The players just won. The lockout lifted. The Draft is illegal according to the former NFLPA leadership. All of the "tradeintooblivion" posters should have heavy hearts. Before 2010, our Drafts were mediocre. Why does everyone forget that? This stock piling picks and passing on talent was with limited success. I like BB and am amused by his trades, but they are not any healthier in added talent by all those extra moves unless there is an end. Cash out this Draft Bill. Don't be stupid!

If there is a Draft, it will no longer be as it was.

I think we lost a sixth or seventh picks in 2012 by the way. Big woop!
If he wants added picks if there is a Draft you have Mankiins, Merriweather, Sanders, Kaczur and a few others as bait for 2012 picks.

This team has gotten younger over the past 3 years and that young talent has proven well on the field...successful drafts in consecutive years tends to lower the importance of the number of drafts picks the following year.

...if the Pats hit the target on some top talent this draft like they have in 09 or 10 then 5 picks will be fine next year

That being said,I could see a trade of our 4th and 6th picks this week to a team for a 3rd or 4th next year.

I don't see any more than 6 picks in 2012 unless BB goes crazy in the draft...don't see that happening,it's time to fill holes on a defense that was embarrassing for a Belichick defense in terms of rankings all last season.

We can't always expect the offense to bail the defense out when the defense is struggling, lack of a pass rush and erratic play in the playoffs, ended our seasons early the past few years

...use our picks this year wisely and we will be set well for the future.

I remember reading days before the draft last year that Carolina had an interest in wide receiver Taylor Price. Interestingly, Price was there for them in the third round and they select former quarterback Armanti Edwards instead. Okay???

2010 third round pick (Armanti Edwards) in exchange for a 2011 second round pick equals an epic fail. Lol.

As many have already replied, this thread is very Shakespearean. In other words, "much ado about nothing".

With at least 9 picks in the upcoming draft, 6 in the top 3 rounds, to go along with the 24 we've had the last 2 years (18 whom have stuck), that will come to 33 picks in the last 3 years. That when most of the rest of the league had 20 or fewer.

Have you guys ever considered the term "TOO YOUNG" Talent might win games, but Vets win championships. Bill is amassing a boatload of talent at a lot of positions. Over the last 3 drafts (including this one) we will have pretty much completed the transition from the Superbowl years to the next generation without suffering through even a 9 game winning season. Pretty remarkable, I'd say.

However there comes a time to refocus your objectives. The new "middle class" is now in place. So what if we "only" have our first 5 picks in the 2012 draft. That's were the keepers usually lay. Besides with trades and comp picks, I'm sure we will add to that total, though I'm not entirely sure why

Finally if we add the ever present and growing FA market, any talent needs that aren't met in the draft can be fulfilled there.

It also should be noted, though painfully so, over the last 2 years the Pats have had 24 picks while the Jets have had just 7. In those same two years the Jets have been to the AFCCG twice, while the Pats......well....not so much. (I'm not saying that their way is better...far from it. But it should also be noted that the draft isn't the only way to build a team.

I think people need to get used to the idea that AT LEAST one of those top 3 picks will be traded for a 2012 1st

Luck is coming out next year and i can see some teams bombing to try and get the 1st pick. Also there are 3 or 4 tackles far better than any this year. I wouldn't a mid to high 1st to get a top tackle to replace Light

The draft is illegal only if you have the league acting as 32 individual clubs and/or* no NFLPA with which to coordinate it.

*I say and/or because I'm not sure if both are needed or if one will suffice.

I can give the JEST 2010, but no amount of spinning will take away the fact that the 2009 JEST only made the playoffs because TWO, repeat TWO teams rolled over like dogs for them.

We cleverly disposed of the last two picks in 2012 so our team will have that extra time to prepare for the season.

Yes, while other teams waste time on picks they will later cut, we're already in mid camp form.

    Can you say winning?[/SHEEN]

Yes, you can try to buy a competitive team when there is a year without a cap.
