Barack Obama & The Case of the Insurance Claim - Heather Michon - Open Salon

One of the commentators at Lucianne.com, a Republican rah-rah website, writes:
    Lucianne.com News Forum - Thread

The article from salon.com claims it wasn't a lie per se, but I don't agree. It ends, although, on a point I wholly endorse:
Obama, like his ideological predecessor Jimmy Carter, has all the hallmarks of a one-termer. Jimmy James Earl Obama Hussein!

    Lefties will be apoplectic.

the election will turn on 2 things: (i) has the economy continued to deteriorate, or even stagnate, and (ii) do the pubbies nominate somebody like Romney or somebody like Bachmann

If the economy continues to suck and the pubbies run Romney, Obama loses. If the economy improves or the pubbies run Bachmann, Obama wins.

and in the case of the latter, righties will be apoplectic

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, this is even more pathetic examples of desperation of the right than was the birth certificate fiasco that blew up so neatly in their faces. The article itself, despite the way it's written, seems to support Obama's claim that his mother was worried right up until the end.

    This is from the article:

"He told the American Medical Association in 2009 that he remembered 'watching . . . as she fought cancer in her final days, spending time worrying whether her insurer would claim her illness was a pre-existing condition.'

The portrait of President Obama as a regular guy, forced like so many regular Americans to stand helplessly by while a suffering loved one uses their ebbing strength to fight with heartless, profit-obsessed medical insurance companies was immensely appealing, particularly to reporters.

    ...

"To defray the cost, Dunham put in a claim with for a disability insurance policy she had through her employers. Correspondence given to Scott by friends of Dunham show that it was her disability carrier, Cigna, that denied the claim on the basis of a pre-existing condition, after reviewers found a note in an old medical file that suggested she might have uterine cancer. Dunham argued that testing at the time had found no sign of the disease. She later requested a review, directing them to her 'son and attorney, Barack Obama,' but it’s not clear if it was completed before her death in November 1995 at the age of 52."

I hope Bachman doesn't have a chance at being nominated mainly because she's an embarassment. If she got nominated, she may as well ask Sarah Palin to be her running mate....

What a ticket that would be.

I guess you didn't read the article, Patters:

I don't think anyone out there even remembers anything about the birth certificate.

Meanwhile, the economy, unemployment, gas prices, housing market, inflation, value of the dollar and national debt continues to blow up in Obama's face. I'd say those issues are a bit more important that that stupid birth certificate nonsense, wouldn't you?

while I agree with you that all of those are far more pressing issues (given that the birth certificate isn't one), I think you're giving far too much credit to the birthers.

Maybe some who post here will chime in...

Then you oviously have short term memory loss or are not paying attention.. Orly Taitz is alive and well, Joe Farah continues to rake in millions for his fraud fund.... many of the extreme righties continue to call him the "usurper" as was evidenced on this board in the past two weeks. Rush Limbaugh continually spreads this myth and his "dittoheads" just follow along. Several posters refer to his ineligibility on this board regularly.. remember the social security fiasco.

Everyone agrees that there are more important things, however the Birth Certificate is usually the most important things for some.

Lying and grinning is a way of life for a scumsucking politician, it's what they do, it's how they get where they are.

What you wrote does not contradict what I said, so I'm not sure why you wrote it in the first place, unless you're trying to redirect the thread. Why don't you start on new thread on one of those issues, and let's keep this thread focused on the odd claim that Obama lied, which I see as even more ridiculous than the birth certificate issue, which provides a standard benchmark (along with freedom fries) for Republican childishness.

Keep in mind, folks, that this thread links to left-of-center website Salon.com on how Obama got away with a sob story that, in all probability, was false.

Rather than arguing with insurance companies as she was battling cancer, Obama's Momma received Cadillac coverage. The point of the article is that the President's statements will likely no longer be uncritically accepted.

The media suck-up of 2008--an almost completely unvetted candidate--probably won't be duplicated to the same degree EDIT: in 2012.

Here's a documentary that massively chronicles with telling facts how much the MSM was in the tank for Obama: http://hw.libsyn.com/p/e/9/0/e907eb...0ffc5f8a5b1a&l_sid=18591&l_eid=&l_mid=2546372

State starts a thread about Obama's lies (mentioning health care) and makes comparisons to Jimmy Carter. You respond with a comment about the birthers, as if that has anything to do with what State wrote. Then you accuse me of redirection!!

How the liberal moderator defines hijacking: Anything that makes Obama look bad.

Post Script: Why did you ignore the question I asked you? Too afraid of the answer? But don't worry, Patters. I'm sure the birth certificate issue will be the defining issue of Campaign 2012!! It's not like anyone actually cares about the economy!

Wolfpack, you don't seem to know what an analogy is. That's something we ordinarily learn in high school. Analogies are perfectly appropriate. To see this issue is as bad as the birth certificate issue would be like a conservative saying that Obama is a socialist. Look up the word "analogy"; I think you'd find it useful. At any rate, as I said it does not appear Obama lied at all -- it appears that at the time his mother died she was worried about the state of her insurance, and actually making an appeal to the insurance company.

Actually, I know exactly what an analogy is (as you define it). When you or any other liberal in here hijacks a thread about Barack Obama and brings up something completely unrelated in a sad attempt to make Republicans look bad, that is just "an analogy."

Responding to that hijacking, however, is a forum rules violation.

Stay on focus. Don't get all frothed in the mouth, Darryl.
Book Casts Doubt on Obama's Health Care Story - Page 1 - Byron York - Townhall Conservative

In reality she was given cadillac care, even being shuttled across the country to receive the best in care.

I know this isn't an issue a lot of us need reminding of--politicians routinely lie--but I think when it's laid bare it should be put around the politician's neck, regardless of political affiliation.
