    #50 Jersey

It's been mentioned in the threads kind of as off-hand comments, but I think it needs its own thread.

The Pats are missing leadership on defense. They are missing the Willie McGinest type leader. Seymour wasn't that type of leader. Thomas isn't that type of leader. Vrabel and Bruschi were leaders, but their leadership was different. Neither Warren nor Wilfork seem to be that sort of leader either, though Warren may be developing into that sort of leader..

And, for all of his 18 or 20 or whatever seasons, Seau is NOT that leader...

The Pats need a Mike Vrabel type leader to come in and really kick things up a notch..

I dont think so. I do think that they need a leader type but really that is not the key ingredient that is missing. If you are going to talk about leaders then you might as well say experience is missing (and it is)

giving Henne 7 seconds to throw points at the D line pressure AND the lack of penetration on blitzes...Brees made this very apparent, but when a Henne throws like he did today, then the D needs to rethink its strategy...it's not bend then break defense that wins anything

The defense played clutch in the last 25 minutes of this game.

The key ingredient on this team are two quality coordinators.

Our current coordinators have zero prior NFL experience before joining this team, and didn't do anything in the college game either.

They do need a leader on defense.

They also need a ball hawk. Someone who can get a turnover when it matters. In the past Bruschi, Ty Law, Asante Samuels, & Rodney
Harrison were that type of player.

I think leadership is one thing that is needed, but they need players who will set the tone of the defense. Rodney, Tedy, Willie, etc. would all make those game changing plays or hits that knocks the opposing team's ball carrier into Tuesday that made you go wow. I don't see enough of that on this defense. You see it from time to time, but this defense seems to take what the opposing offenses takes and there aren't any tone setters.

If I didn't know better, I'd swear you were me posting under another name.
    Completely agree with you.

They should NOT be this bad no matter who we lost. All these guys have been on teams for years in collage so it not all new.
Where have Burgess and Adalius been. Not much from either of them this year. Wilhite stinks.
Poor coaching decisions cost us the game today imo. Kick the FG!

Our defense has not been the same since Romeo left.

Look at the roster on this team.

This team isn't a 7-5 team based on its talent. It's not a talent issue.

As I said in the other thread. The defense gave up 12 of the 22 points scored by the Dolphins in the final 25 minutes. That isn't clutch.

And the offense only scored 7 points in 3 quarters. This offense ain't that great either.

But Brady threw for 350 yards, clearly the offense isn't the problem

IMO, it is a talent issue. They just don't have any talent at linebacker, outside of Mayo, who's above average, but not much. The rest are jags. With the type of 3-4 defense the Patriots use, you have to linebackers who can make plays. They don't have any.

That's why this team is 7-5, has no road wins, and no wins against teams with a record above 0.500?

Really? This team was top 3 in both offensive and defensive scoring two weeks ago, 10 games into the season, and it's now suddenly a talent problem?

Turning the ball over inside the 10 twice isn't good offense. Making 2 very bad decisions with the ball isn't good offense.

What we don't have is a vocal, confrontational leader. Mayo isn't vocal, that much I've noticed.

This team is no longer methodical on Offense. Move the chains......
The only person they are wearing out is me!

IMO its a combination of things with scheming (or out-schemed), play-calling, confidence and lack of execution being the lion's share of the team's current difficulties.

    350 yards doesn't mean anything.

I would love to see a Pats player just blow up this week in frustration.

This team needs a crazy guy who badly wants to win and will yet at people.

Brady used to yell at people but after 3 rings he's mellowed out a ton.
