Wonder if it's legit or if it's somebody (his agent, a certain team) sending out mis-information to create a smokescreen.

Maybe the Pats sign him on the condition he installs one of those breathalyzer units attached to the ignition.

    Twitter/Omar Kelly

I don't mean to scare Dolphins, Jets and Bills fans, but the word on the street is that if San Diego doesn't get WR Vincent Jackson locked up he's likely headed to a certain New England team. That's right....nail biting time.

Hypothetical: if the Pats do acquire Jackson, does that have any affect on negotiations with Welker? If the Pats sign both Jackson and Welker, what affect does it have on signing players to upgrade the defense? The big name, big money guys sound great, but at some point that means there is that much less cap space available for all the other positions.

    For 2-3 years, maybe.

Free agency is gonna be wild in NE.

I remember a dude on this board last year, claiming to have inside contacts in Foxboro, who said Vjax is the Pats #1 rated WR or something like that. At least it's something interesting to think about.

It's pushing it, but as long as the Pats restructure a bunch of guys and don't sign any other big names (most notably Welker), I'm pretty sure it is possible for the Pats to fit Brandon Lloyd, Mario Williams, and Vincent Jackson all under the cap. Just saying... ;)

i would not mind if the pats signed him but i would be even more happy if they use the money to re-sign Welker Branch Carter and Anderson sign a vet Safety and use the two #1's on WR and DT

Vjax is pretty damn good. Fast, tall, good hands.

Only problem I see is Vjax is going to likely demand 10m plus per year, and while he is good, he's not 10m good. There are a lot of good WR in free agency this year, while I would like the Pats to get one it seems silly to be the team that spends for it when not everyone is going to be inking massive contracts.

If that were to happen, the Patriots would take a sizable step backward.

Isn't Vjax one strike away from being suspended for the entire year. I just don't think BB takes that type of risk.

After Ocho/Price I hope they've completely revamped their WR rating system by now.

For some reason I'm finding it difficult to get excited about giving a huge contract to a receiver that hasn't proven they can learn this offense yet. Plus I'd rather spend more money on defense.

    Disable Jersey

FYI: Ever since I started using Safari it quite often changes words completely and erroneously on me. So much for Apple AI. The worst is that since I don't see error indicators I don't notice the error until it's posted. Bad news on sites that don't let you post edit.

Of coarse, why wouldn't anyone do the same.

No worries. I'll assume it's a joke, especially after witnessing the spelling and grammar of many others here at this site. I'm not going to let it effect me ... err, affect me ... ummm, get to me.

I'm actually using Safari, so thanks for informing me of my new built-in excuse.

Even though Pats were intersted in VJax a few years back this whole thing sounds dubious....the free agent rumor season is underway!

FWIW, that supposed Patriots insider who posted occasionally on the ESPN message board a few years back did say that Belichick loved Vincent Jackson and he would have made a play for him two years ago if he was available (the Chargers were able to give Jackson the highest RFA tag because he became a RFA because of the uncapped year rules).

I know the guy was probably bogus, but we may find out in a few weeks that he wasn't or at least he was ultimately a lucky guesser.

That was a guy on the ESPN board that was reposted here. I think he was bogus, but if he gets this one right, he may not have been. Probably not really as much of an insider as he claims, but a guy with some info. There are plenty of posters on this board and other boards who have peripheral contacts with the Pats and get the occasional pieces of info.

    #24 Jersey

It will be interesting to see how Belichick regards the weaknesses of the team moving forward, and whether more attention is paid to defense or offense, we can make arguments that support either move.

One theory is that BB could feel that there are not as many missing pieces on defense as some of us think, and that we 'need' that one big-play WR to produce better and open up the underneath and middle routes for the other 3 outlets too. I would not put it past Belichick to feel that the best defense is a lights out offense, and that we're pretty close to achieving that. It also could be argued that the offense has been the side of the ball to let us down in the past 2 SB's, putting up a whopping 14 and 17 pts after a total of FOUR weeks of preparation. (Not trying to get into that argument again, just stating that the ultimate opinion comes down to one man's, and this may or may not factor into his choices)

No matter what, I am sure that his moves will improve the team, at least when you look at the proven track record so far.

I am also quite certain that the moves would be argued and criticized too, by those who wish that different moves/choices were made.

As far as the report goes, I won't believe it until its done, as VJax just doesn't seem to be that "Patriots kind of guy" to me; not for the cost, attitude, or production. Belichick may indeed have a differing opinion.

He must be terrible then, since we all know that the Pats can't evaluate WRs.

    #24 Jersey

Yup that was me. My source has long since been removed, he took another job. I can pretty much tell you what his position was because it doesnt matter at this point. He was a security guy. Worked their full time, saw most of the players. KNEW most of the players (albeit not high end ones) but the dude was dead on with info.

He nailed the Donte Stallworth staying at the stadium late at night and in the bubble trying to learn the offense because he didnt get the routes.

He nailed Jerod Mayo being the guy.

    Nailed Moss being a distraction

and nailed Adailus Thomas signing. I dont know who he knew but he got the good stuff and always loved to chat it up.

    TO BE FAIR.

He was dead wrong on London Fletcher and Derrick Thomas.

but was good with hearing rumors of who they were interested in and who they werent

From what my boy told me that Pats front office loved V Jax. Height, speed, aggressiveness. Think of a faster taller stronger David Givens.

    Nope Chuck Testa....

Nah seriously i posted in like two years ago.

This isn't mentioned enough. The guy is a DUI away from missing an entire season due to his history. I don't want to put money into a guy who might have a drinking (or at least a decision making) problem.

He might have been talking about you, but you were not the guy I am talking about. The guy I am talking about was called PatriotInsider or something like that and claimed to have inside knowledge about a number of Patriots related things. One of them was that the Pats were going to jump all over VJax if he became a free agent.

I know VJax doesn't have ALLL that many miles on him (see: holdout, general knucklehead), but at 29 how long could he realistically be a dominant receiver?

I don't know about dominant, but he'll always be tall if nothing else. I'd have no problem giving him a contract for 3-4 years, where I wouldn't be comfortable giving Welker any more than 2.

Give me VJax over Wallace 8 days a week

Wallace is a very good player but Jackson would be dominant in this offense.
