There wasn't a last time. J'rod Cherry was the only player ever selected by the Patriots in the supplemental draft ('99).

Just curious what is your point?

Actually, the Patriots have taken 2 in their history. In 1981 they took Chy Davidson of Rhode Island with an 11th rounder.

Over the 30 year history of the Supplemental Draft 35 players have been selected.

As of right now the only other player available is Nebraska Tackle Chris Patrick.

The draft date is July 10th. A couple more "intriguing" prospects will declare but I think it's unlikely we move to take anyone. I think it's a nice second chance system but more often than not there are concerns with these players. I'm not saying it's out of the realm of possibility (especially this year), but it just doesn't seem to be Belioli's MO

This kid is about the same size and speed as the CB from Cal (Hughes?) that the Colts took in Round 3 this year. Sounds like he's safety material! That said, what are the chances of a rookie CB/safety with ordinary numbers getting a slot on this year club? On the other hand, All-SEC means something and Georgia is a favored Pats school. If the Pats are going to bid at all, I'll bet they don't propose any more than their own 3rd rounder.

Yea,, those 40 times were slow,, the projected first round status doesn't jive.

Sounds like a good player but with speeds like that can be had later in the draft, sounds like he will be 5th rounder-ish.

I did like the idea of the disgused ((Patriot)) landscaper tho:D

Whoops overlooked that one.

Yeah, I overlooked one too.

I would love to see us find a gem in the Sup. draft. That would cap an offseason where we actually had something to talk about.

Curran's piece notes two items that make Patrick the more attractive player from a Pats' perspective: Linta is his agent (good relationship in Foxborough) and this kid earned academic honors. Making this move for family reasons on top of the two items above, plus his starting record at Nebraska, make for a "safer" pick.

I was happy to see the team draft a couple OTs in April, I wasn't happy with the depth at LT to start the 2006 season, Kaczur getting healthy mid-season helped that. I'd still like more competition at OT for Training Camp.

I am not trying to be rude but I feel you are kinda dense.Supplemental draft order is not determined by the next years record(how the hell would that work?Kreskin?)It costs you next years pick but its based on last years record in a 3 tiered system.Doing Da Doing.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm still awaiting the first worthwhile post from you. You're right. It's based on last years record in a three tiered system. I must have six different posts on this thread saying this, so who do you think you're educating?

The Patriots record last year was 12-4. They are in the third tier. Reiss jumps...and follow me closely here.. from A) The Patriots have the Raiders third round pick unconditionally, to B) The Patriots move into the first tier of priority. That is what is called an invalid deduction.

He then appears to later say that the Patriots have to indicate which pick via e-mail they pick wish to use to select him. If he's talking about which 3rd rounder, that is obviously wrong. If he is talking about which priority number, that is also wrong, because the Patriots have ONE priority ranking, and it's in tier three. There is nothing to suggest they get several different priority rankings in every round based on which trades they may or may not have made.

I really can't explain it better than post #63 in this thread. Maybe in the past the Patriots would get first priority in the third round, but it's clear that that is no longer the case.

It wasn't J'Rod Cherry, he was a veteran free agent they signed under Belichick. It was his brother J'Juan Cherry they took in '99 in the Supplemental Draft. He never made it and was a bust.

I didn't realize there were two of them. I just saw the crazy J's and Cherry ass-umed it was J'Rod.

Again thanks for the correction. :D

Reiss emailed the league for clearification and this is what they sent him.

Reiss said:
"They would have two opportunities to make a third-round supplemental selection. it would be up to the team to select in Oakland's spot or in their or in their own slot. theoretically, they could exercise both picks in that round."

That makes it sound like Dryheat is incorrect, and admittedly, I can't figure out why the league would use a system like he proposes, but eventually we will see.

Well it would appear that I sit corrected.

I was corrected twice throughout this thread. :D

I thought it was cool of him to actually send me an unsolicited follow up email with the response from the league. Seems like a nice guy to me. ;)
