There may very well be hope. I'm not sure who was applying the "pressure" to Pelosi, but I can only hope it was the newly elected blood in the democratic party. I'm still perplexed at her even wanting this clown to begin with, but I'll give her credit for bidding him adieu. I'm not back to being "cautiously optimistic" about the new Dems. Hope they stay principle and not party.

Pelosi rejects Hastings bid to head committee

    Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:41pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida, impeached as a federal judge in 1989 on corruption charges, dropped his bid under pressure on Tuesday to chair a congressional panel designed to help protect America's security, a party aide said.

Hastings took the action after being told by Rep. Nancy Pelosi, in line to head the U.S. House of Representatives when the new Congress convenes in January, that she would not give him the coveted job, the aide said.

As House speaker, Pelosi decides who in her party serves on the committee that helps oversee federal efforts to protect the United States.

Last week, Hastings made a public plea for the post, arguing that despite being removed by Congress as a federal judge, he did nothing wrong and was cleared by a court of the corruption charges.

But Pelosi decided against picking Hastings for the chairmanship and told him at a private meeting. She has not yet decided who she will name instead, the aide said.

Hastings, a popular politician in Florida, was elected without opposition on November 7 to an eighth term in Congress.

She wanted him badly but she is more concerned with her own legacy, she is still a "Far Left Frisco Liberal", she and her cohorts before the election were slobbering and blubbering about all the Republican "Crooks" then hours after she won she wanted to promote two of "Her Own Crooks", the sane Democrats must have been all over her.

It's a good thing she did but I don't think she did it because it was a good thing, she did it to cover her own grinning a$s.

That's why I am cautiously optimistic Harry. I like some of the candidates that were recently elected into the Democratic party. They are centrists who seem to have sensible causes. I've always maintained that traditional democrats are well intentioned, and reasonable people. My hope is that the "pressure" was put forth by them. I do give credit to Pelosi for succuming to it, and not being stubborn. There may be hope!

For the record this far left, loony, 'Frisco, liberal was a stay-at-home mom until the youngest of her 5 children was 1/2 way through High School. This cheese-eatin' France-lovin' socialist never really got around to preaching family values. She just practiced them.

I'm not sure what your point is? Are you implying that a mother cannot be a loony liberal? Great, she raised her kids, lets make her president. Someone give her an award. My neighbor raises her kids, do you know what her political positions are? Me and my buddy Jimmy are both unmarried, 32 year old male college graduates, who live on their own. Can you tell me what our political affiliations are? What we like with respect to government policy? For the record, I'm a fiscal conservative, he's a socialist. Wow! Imagine that! Kerry Healey and Nancy Pelosi have alot in common politically? They sure do socially.
