A bomb exploded in a government area, a press officer at Oslo Police Station confirmed to CNN.

“There has been a bomb explosion in the government area," the officer said. "At least one person is dead and a number of people are injured, we don’t have the exact number yet.

But that spokesperson said so far they don't know what the cause was.

"We don’t know if this comes from a terrorist action, we don’t know yet. We don’t know exactly how many explosions were yet," the spokesperson said. "Oslo centre has been evacuated."

A US official says it is too soon to tell what caused the explosion in Oslo or whether it is a terrorist attack. The possibility of terrorism is always a concern because of the ongoing threat from al Qaeda to launch attacks in Europe.

If I thought we shouldn't be talking about it I wouldn't have posted it.

How 'bout first we pray that there are not a lot of casualities? Then we can pray that they catch whoever did it without first praying it was one group or another.

AP is reporting that because of this attack, Norwegan troops are massing on the border of Iraq to rid the country of WMDs. They claim they will be greeted as liberators, and will stand down when the people of Iraq stand up. The leadership in Oslo is saying they are building a coalition of the willing including such nations as Latvia and Tonga.

    see how dumb that sounds?

on the Real, lets not "pray" that any sect did this, bottom line is that this (as with every act of terror) is perpetrated by COWARDS. The only faith that guids a coward is his/her fear and lack of general understanding of human beings in general. They could be a Jewish, Muslim Eskimo who was born in MOntana, goes to catholic church every sunday and plays Magic the Gathering for all I care....they are still a COWARD. A complete b!tch did this

    PERIOD

Looks pretty bad....not much information coming out yet, though. Hard to believe only two people were killed. That's alot of offices which sustained major damage.

Your right HD, the Norwegian's will curl up in the fetal position like they did in WW@ and the Cold War and wait for others to protect their freedom.

Quite honestly....Don't compare terrorism to Nazi invasions and the threat of communism. Its a bit silly. You are better than that. To quote-ish Allan Iverson "We talking 'bout TERRORISM here, not a game, TERRORISM"

The best way to fight terrorism is to not be terrified.

Perhaps you are unaware that Norway has approximately 83,000 combatant personnel available to be mobilized at any time and that they have a mandatory draft for all males and a voluntary enlistment for all females. They also have the highest military expenditure per capita for all of Europe.

Norwegian Armed Forces - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They hardly curled up and rolled over during WW2, either. Their resistance movement was one of the most organized and, by the end of the war, had over 40,000 armed men which greatly facilitated the transfer of power in 1945.
Occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Don't knock peace until you've tried it. And don't think peaceful means rolling over and dying, either.

    That's a lie.

Norway was peaceful and was bowled over by the greatest military machine the world had ever seen. They also suffered severe reprisal for their resistance.

"Norwegian spotters aided in the destruction of numerous German warships, such as the battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz. The Norwegian resistance also smuggled people in and out of Norway during the war, through Sweden or by fishing boats to Shetland (referred to as the "Shetland bus"). A number of saboteurs (most notably Max Manus and Gunnar Sønsteby) destroyed ships and supplies. Perhaps its most famous achievements were a series of operations to destroy Norsk Hydro's heavy water plant and stockpile of heavy water at Vemork, crippling the German nuclear program. The Germans attempted to stifle Resistance activities and executed several innocent Norwegian men, women, and children in retaliation after any Resistance act. Probably the worst act of reprisal was the assault on the fishing village of Telavåg in the spring of 1942.

In the mid-1980s, it was revealed that Sweden aided the Norwegian resistance movement with training and equipment in a series of camps along the Norwegian border. To avoid suspicion, they were camouflaged as police training camps. By 1944, some 7,000–8,000 men had been secretly trained in Sweden."

    I know.....very strange going-ons.

A person dressed up as a policeman has fired shots at the Labour Party Youth Camp, injuring several people, Norwegian state broadcaster NRK reports. There are about 700 people at the camp, NRK says.

A Norwegian friend of mine (Goes to University over here in Sunny England) is at that camp as we speak. Last i heard she was hiding in a small building with a few people, one of whom had been shot in the arm. Not been able to get in touch with her for about an hour, i'm just hoping its because she is safe but can't use her phone for some reason.

Man wearing police uniform arrested - do you use harsh interrogation methods to perhaps minimize other planned attacks?

Did they drive the Germans out? Did they have an army that was able to resist at all? absent the Russians and Americans would they ever have gotten rid of the Germans, the answer of course is NO. BTW the Russians ended up with the best Army during WW2 by 1945, the damage they inflicted on the Germans far outstripped anything done by the Americans and British, of course they were callous in their willingness to expend lives.

    oh my....PF, I love you and all....but....

sometimes its okay to say you are wrong, ya know? (again comparing a terrorist bombing to War is a stretch)

Technically, didn't the US also 'curl up in a fetal position' during the cold war, didn't EVERYBODY? thus the definition of cold war?

Or you can keep yelling at that wall all day for all I care. Its up to you.

Just had word from her, she's ok physically but obviously very shaken. Never saw the guy, just heard the shots and hid. He's been arrested apparently.
