Goddam Kyrgys and Uzbeks just can't get it right, it seems.

Kyrgyzstan says 23 killed, 338 injured in riots
Interim government struggles to quell turmoil between Kyrgyzs and Uzbeks

BISHKEK, Kyrgyszstan - At least 23 people were killed on Friday when ethnic conflict flared in Kyrgyzstan's second-largest city Osh, the worst outbreak of violence in the Central Asian state since the president was overthrown in April.

The interim government in Kyrgyzstan, which hosts U.S. and Russian military bases, declared a state of emergency in four southern regions after hundreds of youths battled with guns and steel bars, setting shops ablaze in the city.

....Renewed turmoil in the impoverished former Soviet republic will fuel concern among regional players Russia, China and the United States, which uses its air base in the country's north -- about 300 km (186 miles) from Osh -- as an Afghan supply route.

That reminded me of something, whatever happened to one of the Bush Haters favorite "slobbering item" Darfur, George Looney Clooney was supposed to gather an army of Loons and settle all that, we haven't heard the word "Darfur" since the day it was announced that "Beautiful Jug Ears" was going to be our leader.

When Bush vanished so did Darfur..........

    Stop The Wars
Close Gitmo (remember all this stuff)...........:singing:

Last he was heard from was Feb, 2009, and Obama didn't even meet with him. There might have been other things on Obama's mind then, though.

Seize opportunity for peace in Darfur, Clooney urges Obama - CNN.com

His battle to bring peace to Darfur brought him to the White House on Monday, where he met with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden...

"I actually met with the president in the Oval Office for about 15 minutes," Clooney told King, adding that they'd worked together on Darfur three years ago, holding a news conference on the issue when Obama was a U.S. senator. The actor met separately with Biden on Monday.

"They've been very involved" in Darfur, Clooney said. "Vice President Biden has been incredibly vocal on the issue."

Most of it is in Turkey, most infamous part is in Iraq and parts also lay in Iran and Syria.

This is entirely in Turkey, a subgroup of the Kurdish people.

I think the most interesting thing about this story for Americans, aside from the implications for our military there, is that it is actually being reported in American media. Central Asia has been rife with problems over the last several years, (Uzbekistan 05, for example), but unless you read ITAR-TASS, you wouldn't know about it.

April's unrest and government transition was covered, Georgia's semi-war with Russia was covered, Ukraine's presidential problems were covered...the region gets coverage, but almost always has to involve outside influences being affected in the problems as is the case in those three countries.

To be fair, Georgia and Ukraine aren't really in Central Asia. ;)

If you want to focus on that area alone and not include any of the former Soviet Socialist Republics west of the Caspian Sea then true...but they share the problems that the other newly independent republics have had in the last decade.

Point being, they do get coverage but most often it's only due to interference of outside powers(USA, Russia) who need them for something that is causing friction in the country.
