You can bet on at least some of the practice squad players being re-signed within the next day or so. Darryl Richard (DE) will surely be one of those, otherwise the PS leftovers are Jeff Rowe (QB), Darnell Jenkins (WR), Nick Moore (WR), Robert Ortiz (WR), Rob Myers (TE), Robbie Agnone (TE), Adrian Grady (NT), and Bruce Davis (OLB).

For right now, I will provide the Patriots roster with players under contract for 2010, along with projected re-signings/franchise in bold, and roster holes as designated.

    TE: Chris Baker, _______
OT: Matt Light, Sebastian Vollmer, Nick Kaczur, Mark LeVoir, George Bussey
OG/C: Dan Koppen, Logan Mankins (RFA), _______, Dan Connolly, Rich Ohrnberger, Ryan Wendell

DE: Ty Warren, _______, Mike Wright, (Darryl Richard)
NT: Vince Wilfork (UFA/Franchise), Myron Pryor, Ron Brace
OLB: _______, _______, Tully Banta-Cain (UFA), Rob Ninkovich, Pierre Woods (RFA), Shawn Crable (PROJECTED TRADE/RELEASE: Adalius Thomas)

I would actually say that everything will start with Brady receiving a new contract.

This, I think is the real reason we are holding out on Mankins, Wilfork, and the other RFA's. What we do with Brady, cap-wise, will project who we are able to keep, and/or sign.

Yes he is inexpensive, but I am not convinced that he is back next year. What they do at the RB position (draft, cuts, etc) will impact the makeup of that group. Faulk, Taylor and Morris are all over 32 years old.

Maroney has value, but I do wonder how BB perceives him as a reliable RB...

He is gone. Benching a starter in the playoffs, when everything is on the line.. that's about as final as it gets.

No question. Regardless if there isn't a cap next year, in all likelihood there will be in 2011.

Thanks for this listing. For the sake of completeness, could you please include vets from the 2009 roster who *could* be back? I'm thinking specifically of Watson and Neal, because you never know for sure.

Neal is 50/50 at this point due to personal reasons. He has stated that he is contemplating retirement.

It's arguably Sammy Morris' fault that the Patriots lost Brady in 2008, and he's still with the team. And, for that matter, so is Pierre Woods.

Thanks for the effort post. Nice change from drivel-town out there...

I think if 2010 is uncapped, you likely see a lot of front-loaded contracts. The genius is that you lock up guys like Brady, Wilfork, Bodden, keep them happy and still have these very good players on your roster in the future while STILL having lots of cap room, if/when the cap comes back into play.

The thing that bugs me most is Watson. I have a feeling he goes elsewhere and becomes a top TE immediately. Maybe even with the Chiefs. Here's to Bill stewing RIGHT NOW over scheme changes.

There was a rumor on PFW in Progress today that Watson has already put his house up for sale.

Watson is definitely gone...but I would like to see Maroney and Burgess back. Burgess really did play well ever since he got sent home that day, and I think BB likes him. Maroney has potential and I think he would play better under less pressure by being the only feature back in NE. Keep Morris or Taylor as a short yardage back but having 4 RB's on the roster I think forced Maroney into trying to do too much instead of just playing within himself.

Maroney is a fifth-year player. "Potential" doesn't matter anymore.

He has 1 year left to learn how to pass block or he'll be a vet minimum guy in the NFL.

Normally I'd agree that it reflects badly on Maroney's future with the Pats, except that Taylor and Morris also got a total of what...1 touch each...? So, I'm still trying to figure out what that was all about, and whether it actually means anything regarding Maroney. I suppose I could rewatch the game on the DVR and try to make sense of it. Then again, I could also try and drink a gallon-sized slurpee at a pace that ensures 60 minutes of painful brain-freeze. I think I'd actually prefer the latter. :(

I have the same feeling. And I don't like it. Not one bit. :(

Is it possible that he has already been told? Could this happen right away, so soon after the season ends?

When are players allowed to be cut from the team?
