    Which were worse?

I used to think Joe Buck and Troy Aikmen were ok, but lately they've been going downhill. This game in particular was very, very bad. At times, they add some insight, but were often inaccurate in their analysis of the game, and terrible in their delivery . They would say some off the wall **** like "He might have thrown the ball a little better if he wasn't falling down.", or vague stuff like "they didn't get it out to the 20", when they were down at the 14. If I didn't know better, I'd think these guys were flaring bones during the commercial breaks.

As bad as Aikman and Buck were, they were much better than this group of officials. Someone put some acid in the officals gatoraide or somethin.... They looked genuinely lost out there.... like they may have been watching a different game. I don't recall any holding calls on either line, yet in the short time Wilfork was in, he musta got his shirt half pulled off half a dozen times. Rarely have I seen such a confused group of officials.

They're still probably "average" considering the comptetion... but yes, much better than Collinsworth.

with the reply available, they just let every play go, so afraid to stop play.

    Re: Officials vs Announcers

That was an awful game to be sure..

I criticized the bad fumble call (where the ball clearly hit the ground) but got ragged on because it wasn't really our play, but I thought it was a sign of things to come and sure enough BB had to challenge, and there were quite a few non-calls. I remember a blatant holding on Moss in the EZ.

As long as they're consistent and dont throw the flag at crucial times and let it go other times Im Ok with it, Id prefer they let the holding on the line go as long as they call it on the recievers.

    #50 Jersey

    Re: Officials vs Announcers

Made me laugh a few times when they showed Aikmen and Buck together up in the booth and you could tell that Aikmen was sorting through his head for some kind of cliche to fill airspace... it was a dulled, distant look in his eye that told me there was literally no chance of anything informative coming in the near future, so I laughed and pressed mute.

    #12 Jersey

Just my opinion, but the difference between Buck/Aikman and Nantz (sp?)/
Simms is ridiculously lop-sided in favor of the latter. With that said, the guys on the Fox pre-game show are better than CBS. Once again, just my opinion.

    Re: Officials vs Announcers

What broadcasts are you guys watching? Chris Collinsworth is the only analyst covering the NFL who is truly worthy of the title.

I am always shocked how well he sees the field. Whether it was a lineman blowing his block, a guy running the wrong route, or a defender forgetting his assignment Collinsworth always seems able to spot the key action or mistake that resulted in a play working or not working.

I think he's the easily the best in the game.

Question : NFL is huge, but so many announcers suck... what's up with that ?

I will be the first to admit that I do not know all the ins and outs of football, the sport. But, I'd love to have the announcers tell me the personnel on the field. How many DBs, etc.

Where are the best of that profession ? Shouldn't there be quality people out there to be hired ?

Ditto. He is quick to second guess, which might turn some people off, but in terms of knowledge, attentiveness, and insight, he's pretty near the top, if not the top.

Knowing this board, the hate probably comes from some off-hand remark he made about Spygate 2 years ago.

    Re: Officials vs Announcers

Collinsworth is pretty aware, and is very knowledgeable about football. However, he chooses to focus his attention on agenda driven stuff and will often miss some prettty obvious evidence contrary to his viewpoint. I prefer my broadcasters to be more objective and less agenda driven.

    Re: Officials vs Announcers

Collinsworth is very knowledgable about football. He is also a douchebag. He has always been negative about the Patriots ever since he became an analyst. I think it goes back to when the Bengals needed the Patriots to lose on the last MNF game of the season in the late 80s in order to make the playoffs. When he started being an analyst, I was kind of surprised by his anti-Patriot bias. Boomer Esiason was pretty bad too, but he seems to have mellowed out in recent years, but he was terrible when he was on MNF.

I thought that the missed call on the ball that was batted down was pretty bad on the officials part. How do you miss that and not blow the whistle? Guys could have been injured on that and it forces a team to use one of their challenges on a play that should have been obvious.

    No Jersey Selected

    I agree, on both counts.

I've never been a big Aikman fan, for the reasons FTATR stated above. Too many concussions, I reckon. And Buck is just a baseball snob passing his time between 4-hour snore-fests.

As for the zebras, the incompletion/fumble return was the worst of their transgressions. Otherwise, I thought they did an OK job. And please don't play the Moss Was Interfered card. He holds/pushes the DBs all...the...time.
