Re: Official UDFA Signings Thread

TYLER PALKO. . . .please?

Re: Official UDFA Signings Thread

We've added Larry Anam, DB, Boston College and Matt Gutierrez, QB, Michigan/Idaho State. Other noticable players signed are Tyler Palko to New Orleans and Earl Everett to the Bengals. Juwan Simpson went to the Packers and Sam Olajubutu to Tampa Bay

Matt Gutierrez was a pretty sought after QB coming out of high school. I don't know if Henne just beat him out or if there were other issues that caused him to transfer to Idaho State.

Larry Anam's real name is Olanrewaju Anam. His teammates and friends call him Waju. His coaches call him Larry however. Anam is from Nigeria. He runs a 4.37 forty and a 6.89 in the cone drill.

Jake Nordin played for Northern Illinois BTW.

Pats sign three UDFA's

havent seen this anywhere on here...........

JAKE NORDIN(TE)
LARRY ANAM(DB-BC)
MATT GUTIERREZ(QB-MICHIGAN/IDAHO ST)

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

Should be a sticky until the signings end.

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

Nordin is a blocking TE prospect, and a form of Kyle Brady insurance, I suppose. Projects to the practice squad, at best.

Gutierrez is our #3 QB candidate. I'd say he's a long shot.

Anam looks like camp fodder, to me.

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

Out of the three I think Anam has the best chance of making it.

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

You never know with Gutierrez. He could be Matt Cassell #2. Chad Henne was handed the job at UM.

Re: Official UDFA Signings Thread

Henne was handed the UM job. Promised. Just like Lloyd Carr and Henson.

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

Woo-hoo! Gutierrez has been my pet darkhorse QB for months, I was even crazy enough to put him in my pick-10 contest entry.

For those unfamiliar, Matt Gutierrez is like Matt Cassel on the road not taken. He was one of the most heavily recruited high school QBs in the country, chose Michigan and was named the starter heading into his junior season. Then he needed shoulder surgery, missed the season and his sub Henne played to well to sit. Unlike Cassel, Guitierrez decided he wanted to play football, even if it meant taking a step down the ladder. Pocatello, Idaho was a might big step down from 100,000 cheering fans in Ann Arbor.

Good arm, NFL build, reportedly strong intangibles. He's a longshot, but a good UDFA pickup.

Re: Official UDFA Signings Thread

Something tells me the Colts will sign the most UDFA

Re: Official UDFA Signings Thread

Be interesting to see were David Ball from UHN goes.

He fell into some extremely bad habits, mechanically, since his injury. I have no doubt a QB coach can straighten this guy out. He was also a darkhorse of mine.

I'm seeing the Pats become the mid-nineties Packers in drafting quarterbacks low, developing them, and selling high (Brunell, Hasselbeck, Brooks). Cassell should get us a mid-round pick soon.

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

Jake Nordin Northern Illinois
Pro-Day: 03/07/07
Height: 6033
Weight: 250
40 Yrd Dash: 4.93
20 Yrd Dash: 2.82
10 Yrd Dash: 1.62
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 26
Vertical Jump: 30 1/2
Broad Jump: 8'10"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.64
3-Cone Drill: 7.58
- Joe Novak: "Jake's one of the best tight ends in the MAC. He's a big part of our offense. What makes him a top-notch tight end? For one, he's athletic. He's physical. He's got great hands and he can run. He's a doggoned, good football player."
- 10/06/06 - Senior TE Jake Nordin was lost for the season. Nordin fractured his left leg in the first half of last week's victory at Ball State. Nordin entered the BSU game leading the Huskies in receptions and ranked third in receiving yardage.
- 12/11/06 - PRO PROSPECTS: TE Jake Nordin suffered a season-ending leg injury in the sixth game, but might be ready for the bowl game. Nordin has good hands and is considered a solid run blocker.
- 2005 Season: Named Second-Team All-MAC by league coaches. Tied career-high with four receptions for 51 yards vs. No. 4-rated Michigan (9-3-05)...
- 2004 Season: Won first letter with six starts at "R" (hybrid FB-TE)...Made first two 1-A catches (for 15 yards) in initial start vs. No. 22 (AP) Maryland (9-4-04).
- 2003 Season: Started August as No. 2 "R."
- 2002: Red-shirted as true frosh. Began career as No. 5 FB.

Jake looks like a classic BB TE capable of working as an H-back or "R" as Northern Illinois terms it. There is no "on-campus" 40 times to check his reported speed before the injury - he cranked out a 4.9 five months after breaking his fibula. He is coming out of a MAC program that had the leading RB in the nation. Jake shows up in games against top competition from the looks of things.

Waju Anam Boston College
Pro-Day: 03/21/07
Height: 5113
Weight: 190
40 Yrd Dash: 4.37
20 Yrd Dash: 2.53
10 Yrd Dash: 1.48
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 12
Vertical Jump: 39 1/2
Broad Jump: 10'11"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.19
3-Cone Drill: 6.89
- Olanrewaju (pronounced o-lon-ray-wa-shu) has gone by many names during his career at Boston College. The coaching staff called him "Larry," but he preferred having his friends and teammates call him "Waju." Opposing offensive coordinators called him a "cheetah," as they claim he has the best range and some of the quickest feet they have ever seen from a defensive back. Professional scouts call him versatile, as he began his career as a strong safety, moved to free safety as a junior and then finished his tenure at BC as a cornerback.
- Pro-Day: Anam (5-11 3/8, 190 pounds) ran his 40s in 4.37 and 4.40. He also had a 39 ½-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-11 long jump, 4.19 short shuttle, 6.89 three-cone drill and 12 bench presses.
- 2006: Anam shifted to right cornerback, as the coaching staff wanted to better utilize his speed. He finished second on the team with 69 tackles (44 solos), including 2.5 stops for losses. He caused two fumbles, picked off a pass and deflected three others.
- Physical run support defender with excellent foot speed and quickness to close...More productive on special teams than on defense, as he uses that speed to get down field and break up the wedge...Not a threat to intercept the pass...Has a diagnosed attention disorder, and his concentration often wanders...not starting material in the secondary...lacks that instinctive feel for the ball in flight. He has poor hands for the interception and his speed is generally negated in his backpedal due to poor techniques.

Collier and O-T-I-S have a challenge on their hands, lot's of nice raw material to develop.

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

Matt Gutierrez Idaho State
Pro-Day: 03/26/07
Height: 6042
Weight: 232
40 Yrd Dash: 4.90
20 Yrd Dash: 2.86
10 Yrd Dash: 1.68
Vertical Jump: 31 1/2
Broad Jump: 8'11"
3-Cone Drill: 6.69

- Gutierrez gave the team not only a physical presence at quarterback, but a player blessed with the athletic ability and potential that saw the University of Michigan coaching staff regard him as very similar to former Wolverine Tom Brady.
- 2004, Gutierrez was scheduled to replace a departed John Navarre as Michigan's starting quarterback, but was relegated to holding duties in eight games due to a right shoulder torn labrum that eventually required surgery in late October. That injury prevented him from participating in any plays under center.
- After his junior season, Gutierrez decided to transfer to Idaho State.
- Never really got a chance to demonstrate his arm strength at Michigan (longest pass completion was 24 yards)...His short-to-intermediate tosses show very good velocity and touch, but he will need to show that he has the arm to deliver consistently into the deep area of the field, as some of his long throws can get too high when he puts too much air behind it (but he is simply a diamond in the rough that needs reps to erase any doubts teams might have in this area)...At Idaho State, he did a good job of smoking it into the cornerback/safety void, but is untested attacking the deep zones against top competition...Must become more consistent in anticipating the receiver's break, but is good at making check-downs when his primary targets are covered.
- Compares To: TOM BRADY-New England. Like Brady and Notre Dame's Brady Quinn, Gutierrez has that quiet confidence in his ability to move the team. He is more mobile than Tom Brady and has a stronger frame than Quinn, but all three are known for their field vision and patience, making them almost mistake-free.
- General Studies major, twice earning academic honors at Michigan.

Another diamond in the rough.

Why would we not take a runner on the RB from Notre Dame...thought the kid looked good.....I would like to see us go into the season with more behind Maroney than S. Morris and faulk

Re: Pats sign three UDFA's

here's Anam's profile

I'm wondering if he'll try out for CB or Safety, maybe both?
