    Right!
Remember the threads last yr on how we had too many TEs and we should trade some for picks?
    Good times!

I'm sure they'll ease him into things, but it's definitely good to hear he is good to go from the start. Word is he always kills it in training camp and practices. Word is he does it in games too!!!:D:D:D

So, I'm assuming that we never quite received that 2nd or 3rd round pick for Jake Ballard then? ;)

Yeah, I can be a bit of a homer at times (or many a lot of a homer all the time), but I don't think my prediction had anything to do with optimism. It had to do with looking at ACL injuries throughout the league. Von Miller had his surgery a few days after Gronk and he is going to be practicing when Denver opens training camp and not on the PUP. I already gave the examples of Welker and Peterson.

I would have been surprised if he missed the start of the season due to this injury. I would really question the advice Gronk is getting if he did. With today's medical science and with the best ACL sports doctor in the world performing his surgery, there was no reason Gronk shouldn't be playing week 1 without a significant set back.

I am intrigued to hear how his back-ups perform during TC and PS games.

One of the safest bets going is to be more optimistic than the consensus of this board about anything Patriot related.

I think it's more the case that regression to the mean works both ways.

Yeah, for the record, I wasn't meaning to come off as pessimistic. I did not believe a 6 month recovery to be the "norm" for someone returning from an ACL injury, although it's quickly getting to be the stardard somewhere in that area over the past few years. Either way, I think some of us were looking at things from a realistic viewpoint that he may miss a game or two.

I also took into account the possibility of being a bit more careful if they were on the fence due to past history, and the fact that both parties have a good amount of money at stake when the "big" money kicks in for the remainder of his pact.

Either way, it's great news. Now let's hope for a full season.

Pessimism is fine. What we have too much here is people concluding the future as if its fact.

There is a big difference between:

"I worry how much the offense will suffer if Gronk isn;t ready"
    and
"We need to sign 3 new TEs because no way you can count on Gronk, and we will be lucky to have him by week 16, and then he will get hurt for the playoffs"

Not that you were the latter, but there are many of them in these parts.

That would imply the board as a whole is balanced between pessimism and optimism.
Perhaps in numbers that may be correct, but not in volume of posts.

Quote from Gronk today in regard to the way he is going to play the game from now on:

"I'm going to go full speed and I'm going to keep smashing and bashing everything I do"

That scene with Gronk at first relaxing and then playing Madden on the Gillette stadium TV screen was a funny Gronk intro to Patriots All Access
