ALL PRE-SEASON all everyone found fault with (and Rightfully So) was how Pat's O-Line was going to hold up & keep Brady standing up. They came through BIG TIME opening holes for Ridley and gave Brady time to find his targets. THIS IS WHAT PAT'S DO! When everyone doubts they find a way to fix it and get it done. Props to O-Line.

The run blocking was exceptional, leading to 162 yards rushing with a 4.6 YPC rushing average and the best run-pass balance we've seen since 2008 (the last time Josh McD was OC). Ryan Wendell didn't miss a beat at center. Marcus Cannon filled in admirably for Sebastian Vollmer. In spite of all of the whining, there were 0 holds, 0 false starts, and only 1 sack. Not too shabby.

I don't think we need to look too much further than Scarnecchia to attribute credit.

When I look back at some of the JAGS (hardworking, but JAGS nonetheless) that he has coached up - making some of the most dominant pass protecting lines the game has ever seen - I knew this unit would come together.

I agree that the O-line did a not too shabby job overall, but they'll really be put to the test next week with Calias Campbell and Darnell Dockett on the opposing side.

Mayo well said/typed! Wendell handled snaps as if is was Brady's regular and most impressive was how he and Cannon weren't whistled for false starts like so many new O linemen do getting feel for snap counts, etc.

I don't know if I can even name anyone on the SB38 OL that shut down the ferocious Panthers D-line aside from Matt Light. I think Damien Woody was injured that game too.

EDIT: Russ Hochstien I think was one

True Joey but it's good to know that their confidence from their performance today is something positive to build on. They definitely have tools to get it done.

Light-Andruzzi-Koppen-Hochstein-Klemm (I think Klemm but may have been Ashworth. Wanted to answer without looking it up)

    It was Ashworth.
By the way that OL allowed zero sacks in the entire post season.

Thanks Andy. Couldn't remember if Koppen started contributing in '03 or '04. And totally forgot about Andruzzi/Ashworth that year

Its also worth noting that Cannon played alot of snaps (some at RT) without any major mishaps today.

Light was raw when he started, and so are Cannon and Solder - just remember, that they are being schooled by one of the best ever.

Don't think that's a good analogy. Light played in a passing attack in college and was pretty good from day one. Wouldn't describe him as raw at all. Ashworth on the other hand. My dog won't eat anything more raw than he was. I remember Scar's presser where he ripped everyone for criticizing his OL. Said they were fine.

They did a fair amount of rotating with Vollmer and Cannon and they were both on the field on the last drive when they stacked the line. I couldn't tell if Cannon was at RG and Vollmer at RT or if Cannon was the tackle and Vollmer was lined up at TE. Thomas also played some guard.

Weren't the titans the ****tiest pass rushing team in the league last year though? The only guy that i was familiar with on that front 7 was Wimbley.

I wish we could play the texans and 49ers a bit earlier. Now that would be a nice measuring stick for the offensive line.

A good test for the New England Patriots offensive line will be the Baltimore Ravens defensive front seven.

Ashworth and Gorin! Daniel Graham did alot of pass blocking on the right side of the offensive line back in those days.

Gronk Did some great blocks today I remember him stonewalling the DE or OLB leaving Cannon totally free Gronk then got out into space. Brady threw to Welker but was incomplete but had great time.

Dan Connolly had a "head injury", which may have accounted for seeing a lot of Cannon and Vollmer..

    Reportedly he is ok..

Note on Cannon (might the OL be getting better)

I think we all have to agree that Cannon looked pretty good yesterday. Vollmer did as well as did the rest of the O-line. They were not without mistakes but as whole they played as well a game as we are used to seeing in the past.

The interesting thing we all saw was at the end of the game we finally saw Cannon at guard. Which as some of you may know I have been real quick to point out that while there was speculation around draft time it was something up until now we just had not seen.

IMO Vollmer and Cannon were splitting time becuase Volmer barely was active in preseason so they are ramping him up. I bet they split time for a week or two more but then Vollmer will likely be Starting and playing the whole game so seeing Cannon at guard is interesting as he is showing he can back up two positions and that improves the gameday unit. Of course the reason we saw it was because Connoly got his bell wrung but reports are he is OK.
