Through the first five games, here's what the Pats averaged:

    19.0 ppg
    343.4 ypg
    18.4 first downs
    1.2 turnovers

The last two games, here's what the Pats have averaged:

    28.5 ppg
    335.5 ypg
    23.5 first downs
    1.0 turnovers

Obviously the Pats got 7 points this past week thanks to a pick-six. If you take that away, the Pats still are averaging 25.0 ppg over the last two weeks, which is still an improvement by about a touchdown over what they were averaging the first 5 weeks of the season.

    No Jersey Selected

Amendola was there for a large part of the Saints game and Gronk was back for the Jets game.

But this week would be the first time all three would be playing together.

I reserve judgement for a couple of games.

I'm not an offensive coordinator, I don't have access to the film breakdowns of the opponents, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but...

I would like to see the Patriots put an emphasis on getting some first downs. The 3 and outs, series after series, killed them last week.

What this team needs over the next 2 weeks, both offensively and defensively, is to stay as healthy as possible and get to the bye week. A week off would be great for this team in terms of health, and will allow the coaching staff to really figure out the direction this team is going and restructure accordingly.

On Offense, the issues thus far have been: An injured Amendola, an injured Gronkowski, an injured Vereen, inconsistent rookie performances, subpar offensive line performance, and an inconsistent Brady.

The good news? The rookies are improving. Gronkowski is back and will start working more into game shape. Vereen will be back in week 11. Amendola should be back soon, and can (hopefully) not get himself killed. What I really think this team needs is rest.

I have full faith in the Offensive Line to figure things out. Dante will make them better. They will be assisted though by Brady and his comfort with the receivers, as he will be able to get the ball out faster. The rookies are getting better, Gronkowski's presence will be huge, as would Amendola's. Vereen adds a whole new dimension to the passing game.

Let us wait before casting judgment on this offense. I wanna see how it looks from week 11 onward, where Amendola, Gronkowski, Vereen are all on the field at the same time with the rookies. Just stay healthy, develop, and get to the playoffs.

an average from two games isn't enough to tell but obviously they're going to be much better by the end of the season than they were the first five games or even now

unless of course more injuries strike, which will probably happen because ffffffff

I'm talking about together though. Brady having his top 3 pass catchers on the same field should improve the offense..plus gronk upping his snaps

    Greetings,
Hopefully they can be much more effective on third down plays, as the season goes on. That seems to be the most frustrating parts of the game for his offense.

Confucius say to improve passing game Patriots must run the football more but to improve the run game the Patriots must improve the passing game.

It is going to take 1 week and the offense will just click. Hopefully each position can take a step forward. Oline needs to block a little better, receivers have to show Tom that he can trust them by getting open sooner, the running backs be explosive on receptions, gronk not so rusty and finally, Tom just having fun and trusting his receivers. If they can take some steps like the ones above (not huge but take a positive step) the offense will get better. Also it helps to have a trusty slot receiver in amendola to go with Edelman and gronk.

    So what you're saying is:

    1. The OL needs to execute.
    2. Brady needs to improve his accuracy.
    3. The WRs need to hold on to catchable balls.
    4. Gronk needs to settle in after his return week.
    5. Amendola needs to regain health.
    6. Vereen needs to regain health.
    7. The Patriots need to utilize their run game more effectively.

    Have I missed anything? :p

2013 seems to me to be a year of potential. The injuries may prove to be insurmountable by the end of the season, but for now, despite the frustrations I am enjoying this season.

I'm not really seeing a 1/12 third down conversion rate as much of an "improvement" myself, especially considering the fact that it's happened in 2 of the last 3 games. (Losses to CIN and NYJ)

We're on pace to punt almost 100 times this season. The record for Patriots punting in one season is 103, when they put up a stellar 2-14 mark.

Lots of things need to improve, especially IF the defense isn't going to be quite the strong point of the team as we all thought a few weeks ago. At this point it would seem that both sides of the ball are simply mediocre with the potential to be good, whereas the beginning of the season we felt that both sides were good with the potential to be great.

Hopefully the return of some key players to full health helps a lot after the bye and we get back to giving Ridley a lot of touches.

And not 100% fully of those, but steps in the right direction in each area. It's looking that the team will be at its max potential the last 6 weeks of the season and depending on where they stand, the playoffs.

As long as each week is a positive improvement, after the bye they could be rolling along nicely.

There is no need to cherry pick from games we lost. For the total season so far, DEN is #1 and NEP are #28 in the conversion of 3rd downs. Converting on 33% instead of 53% means a lot more points and a much higher TOP.

We know the reasons, but we need to understand that we are far from being in good shape. Perhaps, some of the pieces will fall into shape coming out of the bye week,

The premise of the thread was that the offense has improved in the past few weeks, so I'm not cherry picking stats. It's a fact that we failed to convert 3rd downs at an alarming rate in the past 3 games (particularly 2 of the 3). It so happens that we also lost the past 2 of 3.

Perhaps there is more of a problem in the idea that we've improved so greatly on offense lately, when 2 of the last 3 games say otherwise, than the fact that you thought I was "cherry picking" stats?

If the premise of the thread was that we've improved since game one or something like that, then you'd have been right about the cherry picking. I find it somewhat strange to start a thread about the offense's improvement lately, when the past 3 weeks have shown a horrid offense twice.

    Re: Re: Offensive Improvement?

I absolutely agree the offense has not improved in my opinion, it has been consistent all season, it played the two games in poor weather against the Jets and Bengals and scored under 15 points other than that its between 20-30 points in every game.

I would actually say it may have regressed in the last 3 games.
