NFL | Bush the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year award
Thu, 24 Aug 2006 06:14:03 -0700

PRNewswire.com report New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush is a 2-1 favorite to win the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2006. New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney is 4-1 while Tennessee Titans RB LenDale White and Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai are 5-1. Titans QB Vince Young is a longshot at 15-1. All odds were set by Sportsbook.com.
Thought that was interesting. I'm not really concerned about Maroney getting ROY.... matter of fact, I'm hoping he doesn't since it would mean a decline in Corey's performance. But still nice to see some love for our rook.

I find it interesting that Bush is 2-1 simply from the fact that A) he's playing on a bad team with a mediocre OL and B) He's going to be splitting carries with Duece.

I find it strange also that Lomo is in second for this reason: Addai and Vince Young arguably have a much greater chance of seeing a STARTING role develop earlier in each of their seasons, increasing their opportunities and (one would think) padding their stats.

But hey, Lomo does look outstanding while the other guys look pedestrian so far. It's preseason, but I'm loving the kid.

I wonder if those odds were determined before or after the second pre-season game?

That's ridiculous. Vernon Davis should be the one with 2 to 1 odds. Bush, Maroney, Young, and Leinart won't be starting before week 6 at earliest. Davis is the automatic go to guy for a team that has no running game. The 49'ers are going to be passing a lot, and Davis will be the safety option we all know Smith is going to need. I'm thinking 80 catches 1000 yards 10 td's.

I suppose this is another case of "West Coast Bias"? Or maybe it's just 49ers Suck So Who Cares bias? I have no idea, but you're right, even I didn't think about Vernon Davis when obviously we all should have.

I'd agree that Davis should be an early favorite just based on the situation he's going into.

While I don't think he'll be as good as Bush or Maroney, I think Joseph Addai's in the best position to make an impact as a rookie, given Indy's RB situation.

Lendale White is 5-1? If he's 5-1 for anything it's getting arrested for shoving his way to the front of the line at McDonalds.

Not to mention he's currently third on the depth chart.

Davis should be in the mix for ROY, but IMO, those numbers are off the charts.

If Deion Branch continues on his course, Chad Jackson might be in the conversation for ROY.

I say best odds are Bush, Vernan Davis and then Maroney. All of them have a legit shot of winning. But I would rather have Dillon healthy, splitting carries with Maroney and making the Pats backfield a force to be reckoned with instead of Maroney winning ROY, without much depth.

A "pedestrian" running back. Good one, BF !

The 49ers are going to try and become more of a run first team. they have a greatly improved O-Line and Frank Gore could become a top 10 RB.

Better put the Panther's D. Williams on the list. Looks like he's for real.
