    GA = Gaza?

And Rafah is the name of the camp.

    This is pretty shady actually.

EDIT - The only thing is that there's absolutely no attempt to hide this which means the Obama camp must have not noticed or not vetted carefully enough. I don't think it's a deliberate attempt to break the law because it's so brazen. If it was wouldn't they have the money go to someone in the states and then go to Obama? Or maybe that was their strategy so that they could say, "oh we obviously didn't notice this." This is the kind of thing McCain can have a field day with though, so it would seem like a very stupid thing to purposefully do.

The 3 digit Zip Code is what made me curious.

    Found another from Rafah.

    http://query.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/qind/

    $24,313 from this person.
This may be nothing but someone should seek to find out who these people are and if this is legal.

It's illegal to accept campaign contributions from foreign nationals, so unless this is all fake I don't see how it could possibly be legit.

Need to insert a password when doing a search. I played with the original spelling of the name(Edwan instead of Adwan) and the Zip Code 972(US Zipe Codes have 5 digits) and found this.

Unless I'm missing something the shit is about to hit the fan. I still don't know how this info was entered into the FEC, Opensecrets, the Huffington Post database etc. without it being a huge stink before now.

    http://www.fec.gov/ans/answers_general.shtml#How_much_can_I_contribute

Can't see the document. An individual can give much more but not to a single candidate. So if it shows a total contribution over 2300, it might mean to all candidates.

    Also note -
    http://www.fec.gov/ans/answers_general.shtml#Can_nonUS_citizens_contribute

    Possibilities:

    1) These really are foreign nationals, but not very savvy ones. They would almost certainly be well-connected ones. Palestinians in Gaza are impoverished. So what you are looking for, if this is real, is an absolutely incompetent and unsophisticated Hamasnik who just wants to give money to the Obama campaign and doesn't realize what a poison pill such a donation constitutes.

1a) Same as (1), but they're foreign nationals with green cards in the US, who jotted down Rafah as "home."

    2) These donations are a Rovian rouse of some kind, reported to the FEC or slipped into the FEC records by an anti-Obama partisan as a false-flag operation. Hell, w/Obama opening offices everywhere, I guess the other side could plant a mole and have him/her misidentify donations.

None of them seem "right." #1 makes no sense in terms of access to cash (especially the really generous second donor) being utterly disconnected from any sense of how bad it would look for the candidate.

#2 only strikes me as likely if FEC collects this info from the donor, but I think they collect it from the campaigns. again, it would seem it is pretty involved -- but I put nothing past the GOP smear machine.

And if hiring at FEC is anything like hiring at Justice...

Anyway: weird no matter how you slice it.

Obama's campaign team in Gaza ... unreal.

How much money was raised from the phone banks in Gaza (see video)?
This is good ... Al-Jazeera interviews the kid behind the operation ... wonder if he is still alive?

This is one of those things that seem too obvious to be true, it violates all kinds of laws and looks and smells fishy.

There is no question that the Obama people have brought fundraising to new, never seen before levels. Their use of the internet alone is groundbreaking. Obama has raked in more cash from out of the country than anyone has ever raised. How legal is all of it ... like everything else we'll find out in about 10-20 years.

I would guess that in any presidential campaign, a few things slip between the cracks. After all, processing millions of donations is a largely automated task left up to volunteers, credit card companies, and low-level employees. I don't think it's media worthy unless it amounts to more substantial sums. The scandals in the past always seem to involve at least hundreds of thousands of dollars to the best of my recollection.

At any rate, there may be no scandal here. What I was able to find on the internet is that Canada Camp/Tel Es-Sultan Housing Project is part of a UN effort that moved Palestinians from an Egyptian area that Israel occupied to a part of the Gaza. Egypt provided money and Israel provided "serviced plots" of land.

    http://www.arts.mcgill.ca/mepp/new_prrn/research/documents/canadacamp.htm

Though the project was not completed, in apparently was reinitiated later on with funding from Canada and Kuwait.

    http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/middle_east/peaceprocess/CDACAMP-en.asp

In around 2004, Tel Sultan was largely demolished by the Israelies.

    http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/palestine/rafah.htm
    http://www.hrw.org/reports/2004/rafah1004/12.htm

After reading the last two links, I would not be surprised if there are Americans overseas who are doing volunteer work. And I would not be surprised if Americans in Israel and elsewhere in the Middle East favor a change in American foreign policy.

On the other hand, we could do racial profiling and say to ourselves, "Sounds like an Arab name to me, and looks like he's living with the enemy. Must be a terrorist. Therefore Obama is taking illegal contributions from terrorists." I think something like that is the reasoning behind this thread.

Was it necassary to throw the race card into this? It turns out I was right about this.
