So he wants to take profits from a company and hand it out to people. Anyone have a problem with that?

    Obama's 'emergency' economic plan

By MIKE ALLEN | 8/1/08 9:38 AM EST Text Size:

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Friday announced an “Emergency Economic Plan” that would give families a stimulus check of $1,000 each, funded in part by what his presidential campaign calls “windfall profits from Big Oil.”

Details are in this six-page policy paper.

The first part of Obama’s plan is an emergency energy rebate ($500 to individual workers, $1,000 to families) as soon as this fall.

“This rebate will be enough to offset the increased cost of gas for a working family over the next four months,” Obama said. “Or, if you live in a state where it gets very cold in the winter, it will be enough to cover the entire increase in your heating bills. Or you could use the rebate for any of your other bills or even to pay down debt

Separately, Obama’s plan includes a $50 billion stimulus package that his campaign claims would save more than 1 million jobs.

Not surprising to me, as he's a proponent of wealth redistribution. I don't think it would ever get passed though.

Thats nothing compared to what the jerk has planned for us after he's coronated and he's sitting safely on his throne, in a way it is good that he will throw all his far left crap out there it will wake America up to Socialism and show the people how close they came to being destroyed by a little "God Like Idol" when Prince Dictator Obama gets done with America the Democratic party will be destroyed, a new party will rise from the ashes.

Now just pray that the Muslims don't take advantage of this Obama kid and bomb the living sh!t out of our country.

Obama's first press conference and his first State Of The Union speech will be a worldwide sideshow, the News Media and the Democrats will be fainting, jerking off, falling to their knees, legs will tingle, Harry Weasel Reid and Auntie Skanky Pelosi will have live sex on Hardball, Chris Matthews f-cking legs will fall off.

I watched MSNBC this morning for a half hour, during that time they Gushed the name "Obama" 346,000 times.

Hell no! Do you have a problem giving OUR money to bail out public corporations? It works both ways. We shouldn't be doing either one...in my opinion. It makes no sense.

Doesn't anyone else agree that we shouldn't be giving ANYONE a check under the guise of "Stimulus". Read my lips..."It's BAD for the economy!"

In what world could you possible tax a private corporation and the redistribute their money to the populace?

I'm sure that he could get this law passed with a Democrat Congress, and even if he could do it, what exactly would the oil companies do? Of course, they would raise their prices accordingly to off-set the tax.

Why doesn't he just announce a government take-over of the entire oil industry? He could talk to his buddy Hugo about that.

At the same time Ted, it makes no more sense than the people giving OUR money to corporations to keep them afloat. How is it any different?

Who in their right mind would ever believe the citizens of the US would be handing their money to financial institutions to keep them running?

You "could" say it was necessary for the good of us all. But that is the same as saying putting money in the hands of consumers (from private corp's) would benefit those same corporations by keeping people working, spending money and keeping the economic machine greased.

But you know what, both give-aways are just plain stupid. Yet here we are discussing another stupid proposal and reading in today's paper about another stupid proposed economic "stimulus"..

    It's all just plain insane.

You do know who is in charge of Congress don't you?

All of those bail-outs are ridiculous, and I wouldn't have voted for any of them.

I gladly took my check, and I will take another one, it is after all MY MONEY, and I will spend it alot smarter than they will.

McCain best attribute in this race is his pledge not to sing a single bill with an "earmark" in it. Congress has become ridiculous with this crap. I can only hope that they bring back the line item veto that Newt gave Clinton (until the SC overturned it), that would end alot of this mess too.

I wasn't being partisan Ted. I was making a point regardless of party and I agree with you.

Leave the economy alone...it will do a better job of fixing itself than a bunch of butt kissing politicians.

Yep, it would just be a big giant circle. Tax the oil companies, give it to the people (with the government getting some, I am sure) and then the people can use it on the gas which costs more as the oil companies profit is down. Brilliant.

How about creating our own energy with our oil, coal and nuclear plants ? Now THAT is an idea.

It has nothing to do with the question at hand. Maybe the financial bailout was necessary, maybe it wasn't. But whatever side of that you're on, this oil company shell game is ridiculous and totally independent of the other bailout.

Obama on his $1,000 stimulus hand out:
How does this help us moving forward? The closer we get to election time, the more exposed he becomes as a candidate. To think that he or McLame is going to be CIC. Ouch.

Who "funds" the other part? Exactly how much would they get from "Big Oil" and how much will be from printing new paper? How much of a profit is a "windfall"? If other industries make the same % of profit will they also have to pay a "windfall" tax?

I'd like to see the answers to those questions.

Exxon reported record profits, however they paid 3x that amount in taxes.

The Federal Government gets 3-4 times per gallon as much as oil companies do. In CA the state also gets 3-4 times as much per gallon as the oil companies. Maybe the government should return some of their windfall profits.

This is taxes Exxon paid directly IN Addition to the sales taxes you mention, totally nuts. BTW if BO raises taxes on the oil co's it raises taxes for every working joe & jill who have to get to work and heat their home.
