WTF would you call nationalized healthcare? Wheres that money coming from (if it is passed)? How about cash for clunkers and all the god damn bailouts? WTF is 7 billion in the face of all the money thrown around earlier this year? Great, .7% (probably less but I don't want to look the numbers up and bail from the country right now) of the national dept added last year alone has been slice off this years budget. Get out the party hats, kazoos, and the pinata! Hell, while we're at it we can throw in a huge cake with strippers that will pop out!

Darryl...."Cuts" mean nothing if your adding 10 times more spending than you're cutting.

Even if Obama cut military spending in half but spent it all on attempts to fix the economy, he would accomplish nothing.

It only counts when TOTAL spending is cut and gov't gets SMALLER.

Some day, it will be law that spending can't be greater than revenue...some day fairly soon.

10 times... oh the horrors, any figures to back up that number.. the hysteria and hyperbole is obvious.

Why do you guys obsess so much about getting the government smaller when there's tens of millions more citizens around every time they do a census?

This is like my wife telling me she cancelled her subscription to a magazine to save money. But she also bought a new car :rollyes:

(she didn't, thank god, just an example).

A cut in government spending is different than a cut for you and I. To Congress, a cut is when they increase spending by 20% when they anticipated spending and budgeted 25% more....

Not 10 times, but PR is right, Obama may have cut some programs but the net result is an INCREASE in spending. Here is a link to the 2010 budget, Table S4 has non-defense discretionary spending by year. Here's how it looks:

    2008: $508 billion
    2009: $589 billion
    2010: $687 billion

And that increase does NOT include the stimulus money, which was an additonal $260 billion spent in 2009.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2010/assets/summary.pdf

The bottom line is that he shouldn't be patted on the back for making cuts when what he has really done is increase spending faster than Bush ever did.

Here is an article about it with somewhat different figures (but same trend) by our old friend Karl Rove:

Karl Rove: Obama's Fiscal Fantasy World - WSJ.com

"So discretionary domestic spending now stands at $536 billion, up nearly 24% from President George W. Bush's last full year budget in fiscal 2008 of $433.6 billion. That's a huge spending surge, even for a profligate liberal like Mr. Obama. The $102 billion spending increase doesn't even count the $787 billion stimulus package, of which $534 billion remains unspent."

Thanks Stokes! This is EXACTLY what I was referring to and Darryl knows it. No hyperbole or hysteria...just the truth. Darryl knows what truth is...it's kinda like transparency!:D

Honestly, posting Obama cuts was a stupid thing to do when everyone knows he's adding FAR more than he's cutting.

Do you have better numbers for us or do you just blast the source, as usual, with no reason to believe the numbers are wrong ?

I need to do better than the office of management and budget from The White House? Did you even look at the first link? its THE ACTUAL 2010 BUDGET! I cited the Rove opinion article as that was where I first found the story, then went to the whitehouse site to check it for myself, since I do not consider an op-ed from Karl Rove to be a reliable source. Turns out he was right. The bottom line is that spending has gone up by almost unprecedented levels despite cuts to some programs.

Here is the link to the OBAMA WHITEHOUSE SITE again in case you missed it last time:

Prior to reaching climax, this thread was about an interesting article that made the front page of that right wing rag, the Washington Times....I am not defending anything, just pointing out the article...

Sorry to ruin your happy ending...
