Jesus, I'm generally optimistic but this guy is getting me down.

Obama warns of need for stimulus bill right away - Yahoo! News

""This recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse," Obama wrote in the newspaper piece titled, "The Action Americans Need.""

That's the way to make the country feel a little better - calling for the possibility of the never ending recession. There never has been such a thing, even in the days of the Great Depression it reversed. But no, not this time, THE NEVER ENDING RECESSION. Great. I thought McCain was supposed to be the depressing old voice in the last election. No wonder all we hear is the negative, it's starting up top.

Of course, we won't get to keep more of our money to help turn it around :

""I reject these theories (tax cuts), and so did the American people when they went to the polls in November and voted resoundingly for change," he wrote."

Of course, that's not true, the American people are NOT against tax cuts :

Rasmussen Reports: The Most Comprehensive Public Opinion Site.

"One constant in views on tax policy is that most voters consistently believe tax cuts help the economy--56% now hold that view while only 16% think tax cuts are bad for the economy."

Somehow Obama thinks that his win while promising a tax cut to everyone making under $250K (I think that was the final number) now = the American people rejecting tax cuts.

By saying it may not be able to be reversed, he's saying that our system is in danger of complete collapse. Kinda like maverick and PC have been talking about. It is the reality we face. He's saying it could get so bad that we'll never see capitalism the we know it ever again.

It's much better to just lie like Bush did, keeps us happy in ignorance a bit longer
Let's also fudge all the key financial data as well, like Bush did

I don't believe that although he's doing his best to end capitalism by taking Bush's spending and seeing it (at least) another $1T.

How about his lies about the American people rejecting tax cuts ?

    Liar, Liar, Obama on Fire.

He's not fear-mongering his stimulus bill, is he? Nah, nope, no-way. I've been told that only George Bush fear-mongers.

Meet the new guy, same as the old guy.

    Nice perspective!

    ummmmmm

Bush was stating that we were not in a recession, all the while knowing we were. His administration "Never could have forseen" things like 9-11, Levve Failures, Financial mayhem etc. When we can plainly see they had valid information on all of these things, and either chose not to listen, or ignored what they heard.....OH except the 'faulty intel' on Iraq...THAT they chose to listen to....

A little honesty from the POTUS is indeed change.

Have any haters ever stopped to think that the reason Obama is saying that this crisis is bad, is beacuse IT IS BAD?????

I think righties definintion of what "Fear Mongering" menas has been perverted by the former president.

Honesty and Fear Mongering are two different things. However, Ignorance is bliss.

All joking and partisanship aside, his comments about Americans rejecting tax cuts when he campaigned ON tax cuts except for the wealthy is downright scary in terms of what he thinks he was elected to do.

I think, again, you seem to be misunderstanding his word by choice.

I'd love to see his 'scary comments' about raising taxes on the middle class? You are claiming that in your non-fact filled paragraph, that actually borders on fear mongering.

Obama campaigned on MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUTS, and taxing of the 'have-mores' He has already stated that he may let the Bush Tax cuts just run their time out in a year. I personnal don't want that, but he has srtated thats what he might do.

BTW...best part of your post is the first 5 words.......then you launch into partisanship...its frickin dreamy!

Admittedly it does say later that there could be a $1K tax cut per family - including those who don't pay income tax  - but it's cutting corporate taxes that would get the economy moving again; not that I object to the small tax cut mentioned here other than the welfare part.

Regarding the rest, I don't want politicians to bury their heads but Obama is over the top negative right now - clearly just setting expectation low after his "I am the Messiah" campaign.

    BF,

word. I'm glad he is being bleak if the times are bleak. I guess we can look at it this way. If you had a sickness that would kill you in 3 years, would you want to know? I would. and apparently Obama thinks the same. We should be kinda excited that the administration is bringing the Presidency out of "the sahdows".

On the second part, again, when did he claim to be "The Messiah"????

"The Messiah" is a name given to him by right wingers. He never climed to be that. come on?

Will my sickness kill me like you stated or is the doctor just concerned about it ? If it's terminal that's one thing. In the situation we're in he should show concern WHILE showing optimism, not show concern while presenting the worst case that will depress everyone and make the worst case more likely.

His actions said it all with his tour of Europe and Roman orgy at the convention. Jokes aside, he said "Change You Can Believe In" - he said he could fix it. SO FIX IT. Otherwise he should have said "Change That Might Work".

I guess there is no point.....

In your ears, he claimed to be a messiah, while campaigning. great.

Now everything he says and does is seen by you with a skewed perspective....great.

I'm all for opposing viewpoints, but they only carry weight when they are backed up by facts. You seem to make leaps of faith by twisting words here. All I'm saying is if you claim that Barack is Stating he is the "MESSIAH" back it up, or don't say it. You certainly didn't back it up.

He DID run on "Change", he did NOT run as the "Messiah"... and by being honest, and attempting to fix things, I think he is sticking to his words.

    hate him all you want.

He campaigned on Change and fixing things. I want him to fix things not say we're moving towards an irreversible disaster. From where I sit all he's done to help things is support a crappy spending bill and do little to get it passed (of course, I'm good with it not passing but that's another issue).

My point isn't about how bleak things are, or what the bill actually is. I'm just speaking about his way of selling his proposal, which is blatant fear mongering. As if the world will end if we don't pass his bill tomorrow.

    I agree.
Last time someone had a gun to my head, he got away with my wallet and duffle bag which, at the time, was pretty much everything I had (I was 19). That's how I feel when Washington says we don't have time for debate about mortgaging the country.
