The only good part is we will have less need to go to war for Middle East or African oil...I guess, maybe.

In the Big Picture, which no one really cares about-I know, drilling and producing more petroleum and other fossil fuels is not "good news". It's amplifying the status quo which will add more toxins and other pollutants to the environment. As long as we have no energy policy geared toward shifting to less polluting forms of power generation, we will continue down into the now-inevitable hole that produces a submerged Florida (granted, not necessarily a bad thing), coastal citied inundated by floods and tornadoes ripping apart cities in the Northeast for the first time- not to mention even more frequent and violent storms and drought in the middle of the country.

Gee, I thought the oil companies were complaining that they needed MORE land approved for their drilling or else our economy would dry up.

Silly Palin and the "Drill Baby Drill" chanters who made it a huge issue about opening up more land (and sea) for drilling.

Another Right Wing pantful of crap strawman argument that had zero basis in reality - - just like their polling predictions and economic forecasting. They are the gang that can't claculate straight.

After the 1,532nd fail, the nation is beginning to catch on to those incompetents.

I'm a staunch left-leaner, but this is where I diverge.

The claim is a fluffy myth, and there's nothing the right nor the left can do about the math.

I'll be happy to explain why, citing numerous links. But the main energy paradigm denialist here is gone, and I'm not sure the rest of you wanna hear the gory details again.

    The short version:

We have a lot of "oil," if you want to call oil from shale "oil." But the reality is it is crap-grade oil (synthetic) that requires enormous cost and a disturbingly violent process to shake loose.

We may well pass Saudi Arabia and Russia as the world's top "producer." But that will have far more to do with their depletion than our expansion. And by then it won't really matter.

Either way, it's still junk. And producing ever more of it will only make costs increase, NOT decrease.

As I've said many times: "I can pretend I've found 100 trillions barrels behind the moon, but that says nothing about my capacity to bring it to market."

    irony... even the new definition.

If you had a basic grasp of the topic, you'd weigh in about it.
