Or maybe, given that Mexico's first couple is visiting, he chose to have a chef brought in who specializes in their cuisine?

I consider it a win-win, since when he's done the chef can mow the White House lawn, wash the windows, etc. etc.

So let the WH chef cook Mexican.

Ordinarily the Nation uses the visit to highlight the host nation's cuisine. They don't serve hanburgers if an American president visits Japan.

Shouldn't be suprised considering how boorish Caulderon has been however.

This doesn't really bother me, I mean we were hosting the prez of Mexico and his wife. OTOH...why not cook up something uniquely American for our visiting guests? Whenever I travel I like to try foods unique to that area, to me it's part of the experience. Aruban Iguana soup-tastes just like chicken btw, in case anyone was wondering.

Kind of funny that no one even bothers (myself included) to read the article.

The friggin' chef is from Chicago. I didn't care about this when I thought the chef was brought in from Mexico, and now I care about this even less.

ROFLMAO And he's not a "Mexican chef," he's an American who happens to specialize in Mexican food.

    There's a difference.

How much coin is this costing? Seriously, at what point does the government, do all governments, begin to acknowledge that there are serious fiscal problems facing us all, and cut back on the largesse? Seriously, wtf. People are broke, citizens are cutting back to make ends meat, and these beaurocrats are flying in chefs, and dolling themselves up, with borrowed money. I'm not singling out Obama here. I'm pointing at all governments, and politicians together. Past, and present.

If Calderon or any other foriegner wants to crash at the WH they should expect to eat hot dogs and hamburgers a pot roast at best and apple pie for desert. :singing:

And McD's, BK, Wendy's, KFC, Popeye's, Applebee's & Old Country Buffet should all take turns.

My son's girlfriend flew in from Chicago last weekend. I believe it cost her $99.00 plus tax.

ROFLMAO Well, personally speaking, I certainly hope I'm never reduced to cutting back and making my ends meat.

In defense of most politicians, however, I do have to point out that most of them do not use government money or political funds to "doll themselves up." Like the rest of us who must occasionally dress up for a business affair, they buy their own clothes and accessories.

Except for that little incident with Sarah Palin and The RNC funds, of course.

Well I would like it if Caulderon made a "Run for the Border" and took all his countrymen here illegally with him.

Does anybody actually have a problem with Rick Bayless being flown in to prepare a state dinner?

I'm for small government, but this seems a bit silly to me. What's the most that could have cost (assuming he didn't pay for his own flight and lodging) -- a few thousand dollars?

(It reminds me of some of the new rules for House members for international travel -- coach under 14 hrs? I don't have any problem with a US Congressman flying business for a 13 hour flight. (And who decided 14 hrs is a cutoff that makes sense?))
