I think this is a great demonstration of good leadership and having a leader who commands considerable respect in the world community.

Late in the afternoon on Friday, with the clock ticking down to zero, a rather dramatic scene unfolded that surprised even several top leaders at the climate negotiations in Copenhagen. In a secret meeting between Chinese, Indian, and Brazilian heads of state, the door swung open revealing President Obama, who hadn’t been invited but had arrived to crash the meeting. Several diplomats protested the intrusion, but Obama simply informed them he wouldn’t accept them negotiating in secret. He sat down and started talking.

The result of that discussion is the outcome of the Copenhagen climate talks—a political agreement that gets something on paper but lacks several of the components that many had expected to be finalized at the meeting.-negotiators-reach-final-agreement.

Hmm, a little departure from the "I apologize for the USA" president. Good for him. It seemed like the rest of the world was no longer taking us seriously.

    The link doesn't work BTW.

He should voice the objection to secret negotiations to the Senate regarding healthcare.

But on subeject, there's a non binding agreement that means absolutely nothing - thank God. obama is a moron. Instead of promising $20B for wealth redistribution he should put that $20B towards a Manhattan Project style research project to find a true alternative energy. At $200K per engineer (which is reasonable given that it includes all costs of employment not just salary), he could hire 100,000 engineers a year and I bet it would result in something good and get us off oil by 2020. Instead we're giving that money to third world countries; just 3 days after he scared us about bankruptcy.

I think it was under Bush that the rest of the world had no respect for us. When Obama got elected, people seemed quite pleased the world over for a variety of reasons, not the least was his intelligence.

Link fixed. Thanks for telling me. http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/thegaggle/

They might not have respected Bush, but they feared him !
They don't fear or respect Obama.

Obama is like a stuffed animal. He is cute & cuddley and your are not

    My Jersey:

This is one of those rare examples of cause and effect:

A meeting is in complete disarray. It's such a mess that various parties call for Obama himself to become more engaged.

Obama enters the scene and, though the accomplishments are marginal, the fact is that Copenhagen has taken another step towards addressing global warming. Progress comes more slowly than we would like, but progress continues.

Obama obviously demonstrated great statesmanship in this instance, and the right, rather than acknowledge the truth, is just expressing sour grapes.

How is giving $20B a year away progress ? Yes, I know, we have so much money in the treasury we don't know what to do with it so we might as well distribute it around the world. These massive surpluses let us do so much good

Is that any great surprise? They start a thread deriding him for his lack of leadership in Copenhagen, and then when it turns out that he's actually performing and getting stuff done, they reach to find some excuse to criticize him for being an effective leader.

That's why we don't take them seriously.

Wow, the way you wrote that speaks volumes. It explains a lot. You envision Obama as a sort of super hero. I get it now. I don't share it. But I get it.

Government is so transparent I can see Florida, straight through DC, and there's free cake and ice cream for everyone. Hip, hip, horray!

Yeah, so the question there was "Please tell me if you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable opinion of: a. The United States?". Not Obama and "his intelligence" as Patters was alluding to. We all know the war in Iraq was unpopular and the left wing media hammered Bush. We could have elected Britney Spears and people would have said they had a higher favorability rating of the US. Except a country like Israel that has real issues to deal with.

Also as he is forced to do presidential things the shine comes of the pumpkin.

President Barack Obama announced Thursday that the United States is abandoning plans for a missile defense shield plan in Poland and the Czech Republic...Much of the initial reaction from Eastern Europe was not in favor of the decision.

US President Barack Obama says Turkey’s future is in the European Union. Not everyone agrees. Numerous politicians in Germany have gone on the attack, and even French President Sarkozy is unimpressed... a number of politicians, particularly in Germany, went on the offensive. “The EU is not Obama’s plaything."

London Times: Absurd Decision on Obama Makes a Mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize. Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration

Which is what "Please tell me if you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable opinion of: a. The United States?" Is all about too.

    Keep trying. [IMG]

Of course worldwide surveys love Obama. American is a very unpopular country worldwide, so they love seeing us with a weak leader. It would be like asking a Colts fan if they want the Patriots to fire Bill belichick and hire Eric Mangini. Of course they're going to say "Yeah, go with Mangini!"
