Obama calls Eagles owner to congratulate him for signing Vick - Shutdown Corner - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Would Obama have picked up the phone if Vick was a Asian, Latino or White guy ?

It is an inspiring story and while the thought is good there is little to no practicality about it. Would be better to publicize the guy gone to jail who learns a trade or works hard at a job to support his / her family and never gets in trouble again. Vick is in the upper echelon of talented humans - just not sure it's the right example but I'll give him an B for effort anyways.

    Vick a positive story?

He is having a great season on the football field, but
I don't think he is a positive story.

How many shooting have you had at your birthday parties?
Michael Vick's Birthday Party Reportedly Marred by Shooting -- NFL FanHouse
Is this the new Michael Vick?.... The positive story?

Vick is a thug, and he is just playing the game to get on the football
    field.

Let me know when Vick does something positive off the football field.

Let me know when Obama picks up the phone to thank a owner for
hiring a white, asian or latino convict.

When Louis Gates got arrested, Obama said the police officer
acted "stupidly" without knowing the facts of the case.

Obama always seems to favor the blacks over other races.

Jeez. Vick is an "inspiring story"? Are people out of their minds? I totally supported his being let back into the league, but let's not sugar coat what the guy is. He's a scumbag though and through. Maybe he's remorseful, but my guess is what he regrets most, is the ca$h he's cost himself over the last few years. What's so inspiring about a guy who was a talented football player before he ran a dog slaughtering, dog fighting ring, and is a talented football player afterward? The answer is, nothing.

We don't know whether or not Obama would call Vick if he were asian or what have you, but we are all entitled to our own opinions.

Obama did not pick up the phone and thank Nolan Ryan for giving
Josh Hamilton another shot in MLB.

Hamilton like Vick had a ton of talent before he got himself in of trouble.

Hamilton unlike Vick suffered from a disease.....
Hamilton hurt himself... and worried his family.

I do not believe..... being a dog killer qualifies as a disease.

Didn't Vick get signed like a year and a half ago? Obama is calling a little late...

Another interesting question is: Would Joe have hit the submit new thread button if Obama had been white and made the call?

Answer: Are you kidding? White people always get the benefit of the doubt in Joe's world.

As much as I hate what Vick did, this is how our country works.. if you do the crime do the time and then move on..

On a secondary level, this is the basis of judeo christian theology.. forgiveness and redemption..

Not a big deal for most.. but suspect that it will make great banter on the right wing(aka mainstream) media today..

Really? Why does it always have to be about race? It seems the people that dwell on that stupid subject are the real racists?

People rant all day about Vick killing dogs which by all means is terrible but people have done worse. Rapethisburger has been accused or rape or some form of sexual abuse twice and only served a 4 game suspension that was originally a 6 game suspension.

Shouldn't he have gone to jail before a dog-killer? I wonder how he got off? I wonder who watched out for him?

As for the story and it being "inspiring story", whatever. It could be, it might not be but either way the man payed his debt to society and served his time unlike others. Now he is doing what no other QB has done in a short period of time and people want to take that from him....

Victory has a thousand mothers, defeat is an orphan.... Had Vick NOT been an MVP candidate, no politician would have been calling. Actually in Philly, they pointed out that the main point of the call was to congratulate Lurie for his green initiatives at the Linc. With solar panels and other "green" methods, the stadium will be energy self-sufficient in 5 years. Lurie must have believed that the benefits outweighed the costs and got him great publicity as well.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The article hinted that his story could maybe paint a road for other people that had gone to jail and turned their life around whether that person is white, black, hispanic, asian or whatever. Most people that get out go right back.

Him serving his time like a man and coming back and changing as a person is something he did "off the field" that is good to most people.

Vick is a piece of sh!t and so is Obama.

How quick the kind and gentle left wing liberals are to jump to the defense of these two men, Obama is an arrogant nasty little man underneath that beautiful smile, cruel vicious men like Vick never change, he will put on his little act for the public and the slobbering do-gooders will fall for it but he will always be nothing more than a filthy cave man, I wonder if some day Jug Ears will introduce him to his kids and let him Pat His Dog.

What A Disgusting Story About Disgusting People.

    Henry Gates says hello.

Maybe Obama isn't a racist, but he sure has preferences.

And name someone who doesnt? Each and everybody on this planet has "preferences" but making this a race thing is just plain ignorant to me.

Joe Biden, Palin, McCain, Bush all have their preferences.... no?

When the Vick ordeal first started, I made the point that "people care more about random dogs, than they do about random people". Was true then, and remains true today.

That being said, I don't think the point being made here is whether or not someone's done worse things, or that vick has paid his debt and deserves to be able to play football. I agree with all of that, but the issue being presented, is whether or not the president should be calling on behalf of someone like Vick, as well as for Joe, whether he would call if Vick were white. I don't think someone like Vick deserves any alcolades what so ever. So poor judgement there I think. On the black issue, I couldn't say since I don't know, but we're all entitled to our own opinions in the end.

The "white" bit is a forum inside joke of sorts. Patters, one of the forum mods, thinks that black people can't be racist, because their black.
