I might be paranoid here but does this strike worry anyone that any kind of terrorism could happen? I don't think they (terrorists) move on the fly that much especially here in the US but NYC is going to be in chaos until this is settled.

I share your concern, and wondered the same as I did during the evacuation of Gulf States and Florida. I would anticipate that the Dept of Homeland Security has a plan for this eventuality, i.e. extra security on bridges, roadways etc. If there is not a contingency, after all the money we have spent on this agency, they should all be fired. I suspect there will be some type of Court order later this AM, from a union point of view it is a great time to strike for them. For a New Yorker, traveler or retailer it really sucks.

If the terrorists were able to move on the fly, they would have attacked after Katrina hit and the Department of Homeland Security was unable to cope. I don't think NYC will be as affected as you think by the strike. NYC has a zillion taxis and most people, including tourists, can travel by foot. Further, if something bad happened, I'm not sure how much mass transit would help anyway, and presume in an emergency the union would suspend the strike.

A few years ago I read an article about Cuba. Because of the embargo, Cuba has had trouble maintaining its cars, and as a result more and more of their people depend on bicycles and walking. The result was a decline in medical problems and health care costs.

If Homeland Security does have a plan for such a situation and the "Dingobat Democrats" find out about it they will try to destroy it (Civil Liberties Don't You Know)

    "Mommy"
    "Yes dear"
"That Arab has some dynamite strapped on his belly"
"Shhh, don't tell anyone, we don't want to violate his "Constitutional Rights"
    "Oh, OK Mom"
    "Mom"
    "Yes dear"
"Won't he violate his own rights if he blows his bowels and guts all over the Mall"?
"Would you like an ice cream"?

They are being fined $1,000,00 a day!

    Methinks the strike ends tomorrow!

Why have a union if you can't strike? If there was no union, would the city pay as well, and then would transit attract the kind of people necessary to do the job for crappy pay and/or conditions? How do the police and firefighter unions feel about this action?

Don't get me wrong, I think unions in general are obsolete, but you have to wonder what would happen to the people who run the infrastructure if there were no bargaining position in the public-sector jobs. Does everything get privatized (my favorite idea) and does that help or hurt the public safety and convenience?

Greedy Cooperations and Cruel Abusive Management created the need of the Unions.
The little man has to have somebody backing him.

Harry, do we agree? Hmmm, maybe I better rethink my stand on this one. ;)

What if the military decided to unionize? If anyone had a ***** about greedy corporations and abusive management, they do.

    Remember,
I am a retired Teamster and an "Ex Democrat", (The real democrats) not the "Looney Hollywood Whack Jobs".

Harry Truman would have flushed Barbara Boxer down the toilet with the rest of the crap.

Tip O'Neil would have kicked Howard Deans "Rectum"

JFK would drown his Idiot bellowing waddling brother.
