honestly i think they have an agreement worked out, i didnt think they were going to slap the tag on him, if they did i think it would be worse.

I'll be nervous if nothing gets reported by 5 March about a contract extention. As for now, I assume everything is cool.

    Re: No tag on Moss

reiss says they can't announce a new deal until the new league year Feb 29th even if they have one in place....ie the "gentlemans agreement", so I'm not too worried.

Yup...I think it is great news that he is not tagged - had they tagged him, then no deal would be in place and it would be antibody's guess as to what would happen.

I think a nice 3 year deal is signed, sealed and ready to be delivered as soon as it is legal to announce!! :rocker:

    Re: No tag on Moss

Its from Reiss. Why wouldn't it be official? Maybe you should stop reacting like an ignorant fool and realize that the Patriots and Belichick are smarter than anyone on this board. Just because you have some irrational thought on how they should run the team doesn't mean that they have the same irrational thought.

It was CLEAR to anyone watching that BB and Moss have a mutual respect for one another. Randy has stated that he wants to finish his career with the Patriots. He's already said he has tons of money and doesn't NEED anymore. And BB isn't going to underpay him by a significant amount.

Many people feel that they have a gentleman's deal in place that they will implement as soon as they can.

    Re: No tag on Moss

How did Indy slap the tag on Clark, then announce a deal the next day?
Moreover, why would a team do that?

    Re: No tag on Moss

Just curious: if they do have this "gentleman's agreement" like most think here, why wouldn't they just franchise him right now and agree to the long-term deal without allowing him to get to free agency? It's not like they are going to use the franchise tag on Gaffney or Gay, and they can't use it on Asante.

If they were allowed to use it on Asante, I'd be very inclined to believe the "they've already got a handshake agreement and deal in place", but they don't have anything to gain by not franchising him unless I just don't understand the way the cap works in football.

I will agree that it's a definite possibility he comes back and your theory is possible, I'm just worried because I see no upside to not franchising him. The Jags or someone like them could swoop in and offer him a boatload of money that he can't turn down.

    Re: No tag on Moss

Hopefully the two sides are close to a long term deal and the Pats felt the tag unnecessary.

The flip side is maybe they are far apart and the Pats don't see any value in having a WR at the cap number of the franchise tag. Hopefully that is not the case.

You seriously believe that just because he was tagged that this means he won't be bacK?

    Re: No tag on Moss

Thank god. I do hope (and am pretty sure) this means that a multi-year deal is in the works.

I don't think you let go of somebody who scored 23 tds for your team the year before.

Franchising him might piss him off, and create bad feelings.
