No pass rushers?!

The scheme is designed for the OLB's to do 90 percent of the rushing, but lately since the middle of the 2007 season, none of the Pats OLBs are getting it done.

Last year Meriweather was our most effective blitzer. How sad is that???????

Can Crable bethe answer? Maybe but it is going to take a bunch of time.

Actually, If you go back and look in 2003 and 2004, the Pats excelled at bringing the pressure from different areas. That is how the scheme was designed. They've had to taper it back because of the lack of quality at ILB.

Considering that the Pats scheme doesn't have a lot of blitzes, its not surprising at all. And, like I said, they had a leash on Mayo and not letting him rush the Passer while he learned the position.

Doesn't this open the door for Jason Taylor? Wasn't he quoted as saying he wanted to see how things unfolded with the draft?

I am not trolling.I wanted that USC kid,Clay Matthews. My point is that everyone hear mentions these other guys we have and they never saw the field as much.

Woods was seeing the field a lot. Vince Redd was signed off the practice squad and was instrumental on special teams. Gary Guyton played ALL YEAR, having made the team out of training camp.

As for Clay Mathews, what do you really know about him? How long has he been a starter? How long has he been playing LB? What makes him so special that you think he'd have made an impact this year in the Pats 3-4? A defense that only truly SPECIAL players can make an impact in during their 1st year.

dude....

crable was on IR all last year.

you can't just sit on the same roster year after year for 20 yrs --- it turns over.
what makes you think some 2nd round pick from this year is so tremendously better than crable?

2 years ago the pats were probably top 5, if not top 3(?), in sacks --- those did not all come from vrabel.
15 guys get put on IR and everybody is crying about how horrible the defense has become.

a good part of the last couple years adalius was on the inside --- he's probably now back on the outside.
hopefully, crable will not be on IR all year again.
the secondary should be substantially better than it was last year.
we have 4 more picks in the 3rd round.

stop crying.

edit ps
**** -- now that I think about it, what kind of shape was seymour in 2 years ago?

Yes.... But don't tell D-Money that. Also, with the Panthers taking Everette Brown, Peppers is even more likely to be traded. But he can't be traded until he's signed his tender. Now, if he does that today and has a contract agreed to with the Patriots, then the Pats could send 2 third round picks to the Panthers for Peppers..

But there is also talk of Derrick Burgess. With the Bills drafting who they did, Kelsay could get cut.

There is a lot left to this draft and to the off-season and people just need to relax.

Whether it's Taylor or Peppers or some vet OLB we've not heard rumors about thus far, there's a hole at a critical play-making position that needs to be addressed. I'm really not all that confident with the tandem of Woods, Tully and Redd being able to get the job done and replace Vrabel's production.

Jason Taylor is old and he is doned. Some of u guys need to take off ur pats sunglasses.

What's with this need for a designated pass rusher? The strength of the QB pressure on this defense has been that you didn't know where it was coming from

Seymour now. It's supposed to be the linebackers. Do you see Bruschi ever rushing anymore?

Shawn Crable, Vince Redd, and Angelo Craig all say "HI"

Now, that that is out of the way. Please enlighten EVERYONE as to which "young pass rushers" would have come in and helped the Patriots immediately. And then tell everyone how you know this for certainty.

Hi, I'm totally unproven?

Seems to me premier pass rushers don't go undrafted or last until the 7th round.

We'll see on Crable. I think he can provide some rush, but if he can't play the run too, he's a specialist and I don't know how much time he'll get.

My thoughts exactly.I am not flaming here.Seymour is getting up there in age and like i said, Bruschi is on his last leg.

29 is not young.Seymour hasnt exactly been the pass rusher he used to be.Get ur facts straight!

Sorry, but there is only a perceived hole at a position. And its perceived by fans, not necessarily the Patriots Staff. And that is what you and every one else who is b!tching and moaning need to remember. in fact, You can ***** and moan and yell and scream and complain until you get blue in the face, but it doesn't mean that you know what BB and the staff are thinking.

Why is he done? Because you say so? What do you base it on? His play last year? When he almost died from the injury he sustained early in the season?

Just stop because you aren't helping your cause here. All you are doing is showing to everyone how much you don't know.

The secondary was a weakness last yr. IT definitely has been shored up with the first day of the draft.

What the hell are you talking about? Seymour had his best year rushing the passer in about 4 years. Why? Because he was healthy again.

You are the one who needs to get your facts straight bud.

Seymour had 8 sacks, thats not all that great. All i know is that when this team cant get a damn pass rush next year, dont complain!!!

8 sacks for a 3-4 D-End is very very good. His primary job is to take up blockers and stop the run.

The secondary wasn't as much of a weakness as people want to believe. The LB corps had issues. But, as I've stated, The Pats had a leash on Mayo and weren't allowing him to rush the passer. Bruschi doesn't have the speed to rush the passer anymore. The Pats 1st and 3rd OLBs were out with injuries. And Vrabel played the season with a shoulder injury.

Its kind of hard to have an effective defense when you're staring your 5th OLB and 4th ILB.

Now, remember that Guyton, Redd, and Mayo all have experience from last year and should be better. And should help put pressure on the QB. And with the Pats having added Bodden, Springs, and Butler to Hobbs, Wilhite, Wheatley, and Richardson, the Pats CBs have become a strength on the team.
