Last night was the first time I watched a replay of a pre-season game on NFLN where they didn't show the home broadcast. What is up with that? Anyone?

To be fair, because I criticized the Eagles broadcast and announcers so bad, I have to say the Bengals broadcast was well done for a local gig. Aside from the play by play guy thinking they were playing the Saints a few times, they were very good. They actually cared about what was going on down on the field, they announced the players that made tackles for both teams, they actually sounded like they reviewed the Pats roster prior to the game rather than scanning the roster sheet mid-play. The camera guys didn't pan over to an obscure Bengal instantly after a play etc...

Overall it wasn't a bad broadcast. But where the heck is our home game broadcast?

Does channel 5 still do the Pre-Season games?

The Bengals announcers weren't like fingernails on a chalkboard, but they weren't exactly great either.

At one point they called the Pats "New Orleans." At another, they made a claim about Maualuga (#58) making a play when it was #68...

They called Kevin Faulk, Marshall Faulk.

But they were still better than listening to Sperm Edwards ball wash every player on the Eagles because he refused to say anything good about the Patriots.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe the NFL folks do appreciate how dreadful the Patriots local announcers are. I thought the Bengals announcers were fantastic. The guy with the mellow voice knew a tremendous amount about the Patriots players, including the 3rd stringers (like rattling off Terrance Nunn's receptions stats from Nebraska)--it was among the best announcing I hear. Who was that guy.

I don't dislike Don Criqui or anything, but he's constantly making mistakes during the broadcast. It's amazing that such a long time announcer can mess up so much.

Randy Cross is pretty annoying. I'd rather have Jerry Glanville. At least he was funny sometimes.

They were horrible... Worst than the Eagles announcers. Just one mess, I'm glad we'll get to see the CBS crew on the Redskins game next week.

Maybe Kraft doesn't want the rest of the country to know how bad Don Criqui and Randy Cross really are calling the Pats' games.

Seriously, my guess is that the NFLN negotiates with each station to buy the rights of their broadcasts and WBZ is probably more expensive than the competition.

That is what I was thinking.

Actually, the guy was calling Cincinnati New Orleans - made me wonder which team he was secretly wishing he covered?

Paul Keels was play-by-play

Anthony Munoz was color.

Probably this. I can't imagine Kraft would have licensed his preseason broadcasts prohibitively given his otherwise progressive NFL business acumen and involvement.

Criqui in particular is bad. He has as much trouble with his own team as the Cincinnati guys had with us. Why would the NFL Network, which is more team agnostic than NESN, want to rebroadcast that?

Here's an odd thought on my part, maybe since there re-airing the games, they re-air the feed of the winning team? Last summer it was one half of each teams feed.

EDIT-Scratch that thought as I remember it being the Eagles feed last week on NFLN.

In defense of Cross. (Well, half hearted defense.)

He did not completely suck for the Eagles game.

Usually I struggle to find out who is even in. Some times he told us.

Sure, sometimes he had too mention that, say, Edelman was in or that Chung blocked a kick.

He once mentioned that Sea bass was in.

Vs. Cincy, he back slid.

No defense is possible for Criqui. (or however you spell it.)
