NFL prostitution, London style

again, I must have made a very muddy point. I, ME PERSONALLY, do not watch soccer for any reason other than the violent riots...and in THAT timeframe, just the beserk gangs of morons going at it. It doesn't happen in England anymore? well it still happens...I saw it on ESPN a few months back. THAT is the extent of MY interest in soccer. Get it? You feel threatened in an NFL venue? Read THIS from October 2013 and tell me all about how soccer violence doesn't exist anymore...

Unfathomable violence...uh, excuse me but I do not think that has ever been a word association used for NFL football. Now please stop trying to educate me on YOUR views of soccer, I DO NOT CARE. I care about NFL FOOTBALL.

British fans, answer me this: If football is gaining popularity in the U.K. and elsewhere, WHY must it involve the current NFL? You should do what we did here with soccer -- establish a domestic pro league. Why would this not be a viable alternative? I keep coming back to the conclusion that NFL football games in London are an event/novelty only, vs. the sport itself truly catching on.

Don't make ignorant comments about other sports. I didn't say it doesn't exist yes shameful violence happens. Just like here in the US and NFL stadiums. I have seen people attacked in Gillette just for wearing opposing team colors.

I think it would be pretty cool to have a team in London but I can't see any way to work out the logistics unless they bring back the concord.

I looked into the London game last year when I was living in Germany. It was insanely expensive so I didn't go. From the guys I talked to who went to the bears game the year before they said it was a great experience. The fans are a mixed bag. Some were there for novelty but some were big fans.

I don't think some Americans understand just how in tune and passionate English fans are of the NFL. When i say there are people over here who are just as knowledgeable about a game they haven't picked up until later in life compared to those Americans who have loved it since they were kids i am being serious.

I mentioned when i first signed up on here that i have family from Boston and i have not failed to visit them every year in the holidays for a long time now and part of the reason is because i love watching the Pats live and they always arrange a game for me to go to with my cousins when i visit.

I am willing to put my football knowledge and credentials up against anyone across the pond and part of the reason is because i have gone out of my way to play for a team over here in England and i wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't doubt it. I'm not sure it will ever be like soccer though. Maybe, I think it's genuinely a more entertaining game. I think the only way to truly get a lot of people watching would be to make a London (or England) team. I loved visiting and everyone I know has said the same. If it did happen though, the London team would be severely disadvantaged as would the teams in their division. Anyone have ideas how to make it work, because I don't.

Good question.

From someone that lives in London and is fortunate to travel to he US to see games you get attached to the product that is the NFL. For me when we had the London Monarchs in NFL Europe the whole thing seemed like a poor copy of what was happening in America. All the superstars are in the US, and people had chosen.. And this is the main stumbling block to a team in the UK, fans have already chosen their team to follow. The one thing about fans in the UK, it is that they are tribal in respect to once they choose they don't change. For me as an example, I don't know if I could support a London team the way I do the Patriots, i started following he Patriots the year the Patriots took Drew Bledsoe 1st overall and hven't looked back since. It's thought that I'm not the only one that feels that way. Over time the London Franchise will gain its fans but short term it will be 32 NFL teams fans in the same building.

And this is why a watered down European NFL didn't work, wouldn't work. The hunger for the real McCoy.

The sporting infrastructure also simply is not there, the high school to college to NFL system in the US is something as a Brit I am very jealous of and something Americans should be totally proud of. In order to get the same end product it would need to happen here in our schooling, it just would not happen. Also is the problem of a tiny pool to choose from, the feel of getting he NFL rejects that don't make it is one we don't want.

Don't get me wrong there are British teams but when you watch you will see why it will never go any further. Believe it or not the Saints HC Sean Payton started his coaching career in England for the Leicester Panthers. Just go to youtube and type in Brit bowl to see the standard.

Yes your point was muddy. But again I say it. Being a season ticket holder at Tottenham for the last 20 years the last 15 years... violence within the stadium has been non existent. Yes fans get escorted out for being disorderly and drunk with the stewards, but overall the Premiership is very clean of violence. I think there was one instance recently where a lower league team called Millwall had a situation with West Ham. There rivalry of violence still stands today, but because one is/was two divisions below it doesn't happen. So back to your original point of loving English violence.. You must be watching recordings on your Betamax recorder. :p

Hmmm.....

First and foremost, I think most British fans don't actually want an NFL team over here. I certainly don't and if you look at somewhere like NFLUK.com, you'll see the feeling is mutual for many. Sadly though the league and certain key figures (our own beloved Bob Kraft amongst them) seem to be pushing it no matter what. That leads me to believe that within the next 5 years, we'll see the announcement of a UK Franchise (alongside a new American one in LA).

As for proper football, Americans see it as a borefest, yet are in love with Baseball? I don't get it. Football is an immense game, the world's game, you don't need 6 goals a game to be excited. Like many NFL puristswho love their defensive slug-fests too, it can be hugely enjoyable watching two hugely tactical managers taking each other on - see the Champions League games between Chelsea and Liverpool 6/7/8 years ago.

Either way, I'm not sure what it has to do with the NFL expanding into the UK. You don't have to knock one down to build up the other.

having been to one Pats game in London (birthday present Rams 2012); I have a little bit of subjective experience to base my opinion on.

Just one guy in one section of stadium; but I have to say that I did not find the folks there all that NFL knowledgeable. They definitely DID NOT get the point about NOT CHEERING when THEIR OWN TEAM O is on the field ( i asked guys wearing pats jerseys why they were yelling and they were dumbfounded).

Also; despite that Patriots are one of the more popular teams in England from all I hear; the vast majority of fans in the stadium did not seem to be rooting for EITHER TEAM IN PARTICULAR. There were a LOT OF OTHER TEAMS JERSEYs and a bout 25% of the folks I met (in lines/toilets/adjacent seats/bars afterwards) wearing Pats Jerseys either flew over from the States or were ex-Pats (US citizens living overseas) like me.

So all-in-all; I think the NFL has a tough road ahead to try and station a team permanent over there. I understand WHY they want to do it; but DONT BELIEVE PERMANENT ASSIGNMENT of a team there is crucial to that strategy.

They want to make NFL an INTERNATIONAL MARKETABLE enterprise. Considering that NFL is driven by TV $$ more than anything; tapping into another slew of markets where folks will bid for the broadcast rights is like going WHALING. Deep sea fishing excursion is the ticket sales from a franchise over there and merchandising is the local pond fisherman.

So, I think NFL would be satisifed for the 5-10 year term with just having between 4 and 8 games a year there. If they get lucky and the sport takes off at local or uni levels; they could look again a team (or even a Division of 4 nfl teams which then wouldnt all have to travel to USA so often). Imagine if in 20 years they create an AFC division in Europe and an NFC div in Mexico-Central America. That would probably make those NFL marketing guys cream in their pants. Not sure that it would be a boon for the product on the field (would likely both thin out the talent pool and do too much travel)

You mean physically attacked? That's bullshyt. I've been to EVERY SINGLE game ever played in Gillette and have not seen anything close to this. Heated exchanges that almost came to blows, yes. But NEVER a Pats fan "attacking" someone simply for wearing an opposing team's colors.

So, the league now is selling "season tickets" to next year's three-game London series. ...
Season tickets across all price categories will go on sale from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10.

I'm disappointed in this post. No. Prostitutes. At. All.

Sorry, I forgot. Here you go:

I tried to remedy this with a photo in post No. 46.

Well, thanks for trying, but we have different things we are into, I guess. Not that there is anything wrong with wanting Goodell dressed as Hitler or anything.

Still waiting for you to produce evidence of violence of gangs inside a stadium in the English premiership. It's why you watch the Premiership 'soccer' after all.

Your not talking about it when watching games.. Your talking about wankers that put themselves into a gang and call themselves part of a football club, when in reality they have sod all to do with the clubs. If you step out of line in a premiership ground chances are you will be banned for life in entering stadia in the whole of the UK. Since the turn of the millennium as I said you will be hard pushed to see violence in the Premiership. I think the biggest thing nowadays is the odd coin chucked at officials.

Here is one for your enjoyment. A street brawl between Russian and Ukraine 'fans' from last year lol on YouTube where you will find most of the stuff you talk about.. Which isn't whist watching games from the premiership 'soccer' league.

Who was knocking it down? Merely pointing out that other sports will play second fiddle is just stating a fact. The reasons for that fact are certainly debatable though.

Saw it at the Pats Ravens game in January. And Pats/Steelers game this year. Pats/Ravens game a man in Lewis jerry was in Beer line and a mid 20's kid came up punched him for no reason.

A Steelers fan did the identical thing at halftime. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

3 games in one season. Key question will be whether or not they fill Wembley 3 times to capacity.

And then in future years, if they can continue to fill the stadium to capacity. Each year will be a test.

Calling it boring, with crowds of hooligans, etc?

The NFL would be second fiddle to football. That's a fact. But that's not the point being made.
