NFL Looking at Centralized Replay Review

This is excellent. It gives Belichick and the Patriots a great opportunity to cut off wireless and landlines in the stadium when an opposing coach throws a challenge flag.

The downside for BB is that the fiber optic cables mentioned are more difficult to tap :(

It's a good first step, but it wouldn't have changed anything for the Pats' season unless they also allow new things to be challenged. This seems to be more for BJGE's TD last week, in which the ref made a clearly incorrect ruling even after reviewing the play.

Belichick just needs to walk around MIT looking for a hacker willing to attack the NFL's system.

It works for NHL because they only review if it a goal or not. NFL I am not sure it works because of all the different replay possibilities.

The NFL review 'room' would have to be larger, with more employees. The NHL plays a lot more games, but it's over the course of a season. The NFL basically plays 13-14 games every sunday, and splits them, so the central 'room' would need enough coverage, plus backup, for about 7 games at a time, plus potential overlap. Covering ever play as an individual view, rather than watching games fluid and in real time, would make things a bit easier, but having every play being a potential override would require faster decisionmaking, more often.

NFL should farm this out to North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado (HQ used to be inside the gigantic underground bunker in Cheyenne Mountain). NORAD is trained to handle massive numbers of inputs and make a decision quickly. This would be a piece of cake. Plus, with little chance of the Russians or Chinese ever launching a thermonuclear strike against us, these guys are bored out of their skulls. They could take on these replay duties no sweat.

Just need to make sure they don't get excited and push the wrong button, though.

That is just a lot if moving parts and reliance on communication equipment. I am all for it, if it can be done properly and efficiently.

And you are right it has to be fast decision making. Especially if they keep the same rules.

And the room in Toronto is looking for one thing only. Not a bunch of things on one specific play.

The new NSA bunkers in Utah would be a great facility for reviewing all aspects of every play. They have access to the thousands of smartphone pics and vids taken real time in the stadium. Every possible angle.
