Anyone else having a tough time with the "new, revamped" version of nfl.com?

Here's a fun little time-waster. Go to this page:
    http://www.nfl.com/players/davidherron/profile?id=HER660686

Now, while you're on this page, type "David Herron" into the "Find a Player" key. Can't find him, even though Google was able to find the David Herron page on the site (that's how I did).

I miss the depth charts and preseason stats. Why did they have to mess with it?

You know it's bad when you have to hunt around and guess where the schedules are posted.

    Yeah,

I emailed them about their new format a few days ago. I congratulated them on succesfully attaining mediocrity, and now looking like every other half-@ssed geek-inspired website. It's one thing to be able to use a new technology. It's Okay from time to time to change things around a bit. However, this is way over-blown, like somone let the tech kids loose at the electronics store with daddy's credit card.

The biggest problem is that there is so much that hits you right away that it can be confusing. Too much eye-candy. Hard to find exectly what you wanted. I go there to get info, not for an acid fix. It's tabloid journalism for techies.

Also... you can add the Boston herald to that same over-done mess. You see their new website? I liken it to a website version of Tammy Fay Baker's makeup. All caked over and hiding what you came to see. It's what you'd get if you had a website designed by trailer-trash beauty school drops out. Too much stuff just caked everywhere.

So in addition to that, they've also lost Albert Breer, their best sports writer. Dear Lord, I had so enjoyed NOT having to visit the Globe.

    Sigh.....

Glad I'm not alone on this. Strange how (with the Herald as an example) newspaper websites strive so hard to avoid looking like newspapers, when all we're looking for is the freakin news, not flashy jump cuts or headlines in pretty colors. It's not sports for fans of the Wiggles, for goodness' sake.

    Stole my post.

I'm sure they'll whip into shape, though.

    New Herald site blows too.

    And funny stuff, Gwedd:rofl:

I have the same problem with patriots.com. The flashing pictures are annoying and it seems impossible to move the mouse without some unwanted window popping into view.

The problem is testing. If you only test the site with people who love it and know their way around it, you'll never hear the bad news.

If they were smart, they would join these messageboards and ask for opinions. I mean, why not? It's a cheap and effective way to get feedback. That they don't is telling. (Unless they have and I don't know about it.)

Quick question, where are the 2007 draft profiles on the new nfl.com? I liked the old site where you could find the draft picks with the negatives and positives and measurables. Presumably they still have it, but I don't know where it is.

But be warned: it's a dead end.

Notice now when you do a Google search for an NFL player, the NFL.com profile isn't even on the first page of entries.

I've found at least one page that is clearly a place holder until they can write the content, so it's still something of an early release. Unfortunately, the design is unlikely to change.

They went live too early with not enough quality assurance. There is a annoying relearning process to navigate the site, but I do love all the new video functionality.

Went there last week, terrible, kinda difficult to find things, pages took too long to load(atleast for me), flat out looks ugly overall, and everything seem to congested and clogged up together. I loved there old format/layout/interface(however you want to lable it). I hate when sites change just for the sake of changing(if that's the case).

even at 1280 X 1024....I'm getting overscan on their
new pages.....everything runs like an overlay.

the worst is the play by play column on the live update during games.
It was good before, now I can't even follow it.

It's not worth dropping the resolution on my HD monitors and TV to look at this bozo site.

ESPN is almost as bad......CNNSI is pretty good

Pro FootballTalk is excellent even when I go to
max resolution of 1920 X 1200,there is only minimal overscan.

You know, ESPN seems to have started this craze. I have had the hardest time loading their site. I used to go there first (well, after HERE of course) but since they changed out their site I have gone instead to the Herald.

Now, the Herald has been balled-up and even CNNSI is doing a similar change-out to a new look.

If I wanted whiz-bang graphics and all this other crap, I'd go to private sites. However, from the major league sports sites, I want basic facts and good wrting. Put the neato-keeno pix into a folder and I'll look at them if I feel like it or have time.

Rather than get to me to hang around and search their sites, they are forcing me to go back to a print copy from the news stand. What a bunch of maroons....

    Respects,

there are reasons why places like Profootballtalk.com are popular...and ease of use is a BIG one.

I could give two craps about how good a site looks...I just want info.

Hate to bring this back this back up, but they already broke their stat system. It seems like they gave Wayne the first TD and now everything is halted why they try to figure out a way to backtrack. Annoying...
