Here is a new 7 round mock as of today, 4/5/06.

I call it the 7 round mock from hell. Enjoy or not.

http://www.nfldraftforecast.com/Mock/2006/round1.shtml

Some very good picks, and others are head-scratchers. For the benefit of the rest:

Lawson (good)
Blue (fair, slight reach IMO)
Brandon Williams (boo)
Webb (boo)
Fudge (good)
Nande (feh)
Alston (steal)
Norwood (steal)
Taurean Henderson (feh)
Bloom (very good)
Charlton Keith (good)

If I were drafting according to this, without trading, I'd be ecstatic. The Patriots would have:
1. Manny Lawson OLB
2. Eric Winston OT
3a. Joseph Addai RB (willing to take him previous round)
3b. Mike Hass WR
4a. Orien Harris DE
4b. Tim Dobbins ILB (not going until the 7th in the mock)
5. David Pittman CB
6a. Brian Iwuh SS
6b. Jeremy Bloom WR
6c. Ryan LaCasse OLB
7. Kellen Clemens QB (and would issue him uniform number 21)

I assume that Roger Clemens' Red Sox number was 21?

Well, that was a very unique draft, to say the least.

In terms of the Patriots picks, I'd rate the guy at 50%.

To take what Dry posted one step further:

Lawson - DE/OLB
Blue - FS
Brandon Williams - WR
Webb - CB
Fudge - SS
Nande - LB
Alston - LB? I believe he's been mentioned as a safety convert because of his size.
Norwood - RB
Taurean Henderson RB
Bloom - WR
Charlton Keith - DE/OLB

So, let me get this straight. The Pats are going to draft 4 DBs to add to the 10 they already HAVE? I don't think so.

I would find it very surprising if the Pats used 4 picks on offense and didn't take a TE.

I just don't find this draft to be plausible for the Patriots. Not to mention some of the reaches that the guy made for other teams.

Sorry, but Avant in the 2nd round is a reach. I don't believe that Denver is going to draft Deangelo Williams. I think that Trueblood in the 2nd round is a major reach. Especially over Eric Winston, Marcus McNeil, and Daryn Colledge. I think that Kai Parham is a reach in the 2nd round. Kudla seems to be a bit of a reach early in the 3rd round.

1 Lawson: Lawson would be a great 4-3 DE, but he doesn't have the coverage skills to be a linebacker in the NFL and we need more than just a pass rusher. I would prefer Sinorice More, DeAngelo Williams or DeMeco Ryans with this pick.

2 Blue: We currently have 5 or 6 safeties on our roster, we don't need more in the second round. Maurice Stovall or Richard Marshall would be a better pick.

3a Williams: Who? Joseph Addai, Davin Joseph and Richard Marshall are all available right now, we should take them instead.

3b Webb: I'll take him, but I'd rather have Chris Gocong.

4a Fudge: Don't know who he is. Stanley McClover, Dwayne Slay, Martin Nance and Joe Toledo are available here.

4b Nande: I'll take him, good special teams/project WLB player, but Stanley McClover and Dwayne Slay are still available.

5 Alston: Good, but Dobbins and Babatunde Oshinowo are available.

6a Norwood: Good player, but Spencer Havner is available. Skyler Green is also there.

6b Henderson: Can't complain.

6c Bloom: Love it.

7a Keith: Who? I'd take a kicker or Carlton Jackson (RB, Army) here.

With the way this draft fell, I would pick as follows:

1: WR Moss
2: CB Marshall (I would probably trade down here, but w/e)
3a: RB Addai
3b: LB Gocong
4a: OT Toledo
4b: S Slay
5: DT Oshinowo
6a: LB Havner
6b: LB Dobbins
6c: WR Bloom
7a: RB Jackson

Just using guys that were below the picks that this guy made, I came out with this.

21. Carpenter-LB still like him better than Lawson
52 Stovall WR
85.Addai RB
86. Eslingger C= Koppen insurance
106. Manning- CB/S If he is in the 4th round- I'll poop
118. Slay- ST and ILB conversion
136. Baba Oshin- NT- Big Vince need a break- big need area
191. King TE
205 Hill RB/FB
206. Huston K
229. Keith De- only one of his picks I would keep

Much better draft,IMO.

I'd be a lot happier with your draft, even if I think Harris is better as a UDFA. Take Pittman 4a, bump Dobbins down to 6a, Iwuh up to 5, and grab OG/OC Will Montgomery or OC/OG Chris McNeil, or a TE at 4b.

I would sub Lawson for Moss but the remainder of your draft here in my opinion is perfect.

Position Changes

Changing positions is no sure thing. Pete "the Rete" Carroll probably ruined Tebucky's career with the attempt to move him to CB. For every one successful Bruschi you have, there are probably many more failures.
I think it's very hard for a player moving one level back (away from the ball) then going to opposite way. It's hard to watch tape on a DE that's played with his hand on the ground for years and say that guy can start as an OLB, no problem. It just doesn't work that way.
