U.S. News - Nuclear renaissance? US OKs new reactor design

    Facepalms for all! LOL...

Okay, I've said here many times I can't see getting off oil without nuclear as a lamentable stopgap. I'm still uncomfortable w/that position.

It's really hard for me to high-five the Obama administration here.

But does this mean the tea party has to now become tree-hugging environmentalist?

Give credit where credit is due, these new generation reactors are much safer than the 40 year old technology in the field now.

Good job by the administration moving ahead.

I was OK building old-fashioned nukes, but this new design is supposed to be safer (which I doubt) so great. Burning fossil fuels at the continued rate we are on is much more dangerous and deadly to life than an equivalent quantity of nuke generators. No one likes the certainty of an accident, but even the worst-case scenario is better than doing nothing.

    So...who's got the Uranium?
    Australia.
Too bad the people there aren't brown Muslims. Looks like we're gonna have to pay for it.

"Why do YOU have to go to Oz, Mr. Sam?"
    "I need some fuel."

    I invaded hostile nations
    Just to have Sunoco stations
And told you it was cool
But the fix for all that ails ya,
    turns out is in Australia...
If I only had some fuellllll

Lots of uranium in the oceans....

Wonder of these reactors are breeder reactors?

We should be looking at Thorium reactors also.

I know! I love that war for oil in Iraq! The war was not good, but the fact that our oil reserves are now over flowing and gas prices are under 1.50 a gallon is GREAT!

    Oh wait...
