His biggest fear...having a player die on the field

OTL: His Game, His Rules - ESPN

BTW the writer totally blows the Spygate issue description so I don't know how serious or well researched his other info is

But in 2007, after Patriots coach Bill Belichick and his assistant coaches were caught using a secret videotaping system of opponents, Goodell led a confounding investigation. He decided on the punishment in five days and shut down the case. He fined Belichick $500,000 and the team $250,000 and stripped New England of a first-round draft choice. Then Goodell ordered the videotapes destroyed. The decision ensured that the question about how much the spying had helped the Patriots win games, including Super Bowls in the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons, would likely forever remain a mystery.

The questions left unresolved by the truncated inquiry persist: Did Goodell destroy the evidence to save the Patriots and the league from breathtaking embarrassment? During last season's playoffs, the scandal was raised again, this time by Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs, who pointed out that the Patriots have not won a title since they stopped videotaping opponents.

yeah...a sure sign of the competence required to be league commissioner...literally destroy the reputation of one of the league's best run organizations, say nothing to this day to explain the resultant ramifications of your actions on that organization...and continue to let idiocy and mongoloidism such as "they used "SECRET" videotapes" of opponents. What a load of garbage. Goodell has NEVER explained why the Jets were not sanctioned for having TWO "secret" cameras at field level, even when Belichick refused to allow them to use the cameras THAT day, but later on, the Mongo-issioner decides to sanction the Patriots for OPENLY using a camera field level and then letting this LIE persist throughout the media to this day.

He is an enemy to ALL NFL fans, the players and anyone who threatens to pull his shroud of deceit to reveal the true megalomaniacal menace he is.This story tells it all...obsessed his entire life to get to THIS position as commissioner....he's obviously a weirdo.

Whereas BB's obsession his entire life to get to the position of head coach is A-OK and non-weird?

One thing I can't understand is how Goodell's handling of the Patriots in 2007 is looked at in a vacuum compared to his other decisions.

The article paints a picture of someone who, when he encounters something that may "tarnish the shield," will react with a punishment that is usually overly harsh and not always well thought out.

As examples, the piece mentions mentions of his "hot decision-making temperament," going "ballistic" when he saw an ex-player's interview on NBC (and then having that player's negative comments scrubbed from any rebroadcast), being "deeply offended" by the Saints bounty violations.

A decent chunk of the article is spent on the mess the Saints situation became. How is it that no one in the media can make the connection that Goodell also botched the Patriots situation?

The difference is BB is a Hall of Fame quality individual in his chosen profession who worked his way up from towel boy. while Goodell is an incompetent biased POS who used political connections to obtain his positions. I am sorry that you lack the ability to tell the difference. I am positive that a man of your obvious intelligence would be welcomed on the Gang Green site.

Absolutely correct sir!!!! Funny how the Tripping gate got shovelled under the rug with a wrist slap on a flunky coach. Does anyone think that if it was the Pats and Belichick that would have been the punishment. I am still waiting for the POS to reveal the results of his investigation as to who leaked the Pats tapes to Fox.LOL

"...a secret videotaping system..." The freaking guy was in Pats' gear on the sideline in full view of everyone.

...Filming someone giving defensive signals on the opposite sideline, also in full full of everyone at the stadium (and, occasionally, the TV audience).

But it was all soooo secret.
