Once Considered Unthinkable, U.S. Sales Tax Gets Fresh Look

You don't think that Obama will tax us? Think again. We will see Obama find different ways to get our money.

This isn't about "reform", it's about increasing taxes. They'll package it and advertise it as it "only the rich" will get a tax increase but the definition of rich seems to be continually dropping. I'm in favor of replacing the Income Tax with something more straight forward like a Sales Tax but I don't want it done with these guys; I don't trust them farther than I could throw them - and, boy, how I would like to throw them; right into a deep ditch.

Everybody need to get used to new 'tax ideas' in the next few months. They keep coming.

The VAT wouldn't eliminate the income tax. It would be the VAT, and an income tax.

Actually the real # is 25% on top of the existing income/payroll taxes. This according to WaPo article:

    washingtonpost.com

The dems are also talking about taxing health ins provided by employers.

The nasty thing about is that it is a hidden tax, the tax is collected at each point along the value chain. So the suppliers pay the tax when they deliver the goods to a manf and the manf collects a tax wen the product go to the retailer and so on.

    This is a disaster....

    so .... "yes" ?

I'll start athread where we can complain about the future speculation about possible discussions about more tax cuts for the wealthy.....

    LAME!

Since socialized medicine is going to be passed thsi year, the funding is being fast tracked also. This will be in addition to the 650B carbon tax. Why don'e we just have out pay just forwarded to the feds and they can give us an allowance.

Right, the way the article is framed, though, the VAT would eliminate Income Tax for those under $100K so it's an attempt to be a replacement for all but "the rich" while, once again, lowering the definition of "the rich".

 You really are a stooge, aren't you NEP? Various government agencies (NOT the White House) are floating the idea of a national sales tax around. NO WHERE does the article indicate that this is Obama's idea. Yet, what do I see for your headline? "New 10% national SALE TAX from Obama"?

You're a fraud. An obsessed fraud, but a fraud nonetheless.

A national sales tax would be the WORST thing our gov't could do for the already suffering economy! If we consider that over 70% of U.S. GDP is generated by CONSUMER SPENDING....think what this would do! It would dramatically curtail consumer spending and send us into a tail-spin from which may never recover.

Down the road "if" we re-establish a production-based economy, then such a tax could be considered. But definately NOT 10%!!!!!!

If he uses $100K as his definition of "Rich", he'll lose ALL credibility! That is just plain assinine.

It's going to add up when you have 10% here, 5% there, and 6% somewhere else. If you are lucky, you have a little bit left after giving them ALL.

We will be hit hard at STATE and FEDERAL level because WE HAVE TO KEEP our state and US going somehow.
