Not the bill I hoped for, but still it's a good enough bill for the working poor that it probably won't get a single Republican vote, lest they lose support from the landed elite.

Nelson Supports Health Bill After Tough Bargaining - ABC News

A holdout no more, Sen. Ben Nelson agreed Saturday to provide the 60th and deciding vote for Senate passage of sweeping health care legislation, capping a year of struggle and a final burst of deadline bargaining.

Nelson, D-Neb., said he made his decision after winning fresh concessions to limit the availability of abortions in insurance sold in newly created exchanges, as well as tens of million in federal Medicaid funds for his home state.

"I know this is hard for some of my colleagues to accept and I appreciate their right to disagree. But I would not have voted for this bill without these provisions," he said at a news conference in the Capitol.

He also noted he had successfully fended off attempts to provide for a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers.

Too bad this bill will be a disaster for America. Since this bill isn't going into effect till 2014 Hopefully the dems and Obama will be sent packing so this monstrosity can be reversed before it goes into effect.

Outstanding! The most impressive legislation passed in years. Yes, this board will be filled with detractors, then again, there is nothing Obama could do to sway a healthy opinion from some people. Like the bill or not, its a major accomplishment for Obama. What's next on his agenda?

It's not nearly as bad as it could have been. But insurance premiums will be going up and Medicare patients will face longer waits.

    I hope the bill passes.

The idea that insurance companies can refuse to pay for a pre existing
    illness needed to be changed.

My daughter is 2 years old. When she was 9 weeks old we found out that
she has a refux problem between her bladder & her kidney. They say
that she has a 50/50 chance of outgrowing the problem. We take her
to Childrens hospital yearly and they run tests to see if she still has the
problem. If she does not outgrow the problem by age 5 they will operate
and fix the problem. She is required to take a daily antibiotic to prevent
    a urinary trac infection.

Last year my company switched from Tufts to Cigna.
I am afraid that if they do not pass this bill my insurance will refuse to
pay if an operation is required.

I also expect a fight this year to get them to pay for the tests at
    Childresns hospital.

I have always believed that Health Care in America "Needs Fixing" but DO NOT LET THE GOVERNMENT RUN IT.

It's impossible to tell what POS will emerge when the merge this POS bill with the POS bill the House passed........... One that my grandkids will end up paying through the nose for. The good thing is that I will likely be dead by then and not have to worry about it.

Nice to see that Nebraska will get a few hundred million dollars extra for that sellout Nelson to be bought. I agree with Harry. These guys operate like the mob.

If you believe that, fine, but they need to be honest about it and tell the people their premiums are going up. Insurance companies have a low profit margin as it is. Add in bad risk patients and not allow them to price it appropriately and the new risk is distributed across everyone's policies.

I think the House will take this one and pass it - maybe with very minor changes.

It will make Medicare waits longer because Medicare payments will be reduced and doctors will take less Medicare patients. It will raise insurance premiums due to forcing insurance to take patients with pre-existing conditions, they will get insurance companies to reimburse more to pay for the less in Medicare which will raise premiums further. Make no mistake, this will cost us all.

Then we can elect another Bush?

You can't elect someone and expect they change the world with a flick of their wrists dumbass. God you drink that right-wing koolaid don't you?

    Bah......bah..........bah........sounds of sheep's make me sleepy:p

Your boys are the reason we are in this mess and the reason 50 years from now it will happen once again, can't fix stupid..........Just look at healthcare, if its going to be this hard to pass things nothing will ever get done, kinda hard to change things when people don't want to change.......are stuck in the old world.

I'm not sure........ the uber-Liberals swore that they would kill anything that did not have the public option and we know that these guys will stand on principle............

......... Either that or they'll have to be be bought out for hundreds of millions in federal monies, like Nebraska just got.

By the way, Nelson was bought for the following inserted language.

Not to shabby. Should mean about 400-500 M extra in medicare payments for a few year for the Huskers. Not bad for a 2-day bluff.

They have'nt voted on this yet...... These politicians don't care about the common good as much as they care about their own hides. So until this albatross gets voted in. Talk is cheap!

Many incumbent democrats will lose their jobs come the Election Days including Harry (weasel) Reid and possibly President Jug Ears himself.

You can't trust the government, the people do not want this.
