I'd like to try to keep this as how to best defend the Broncos offense and attack their defense and really not argue about result or glass half empty\full crap.

Talib, Dennard, Arrington, Ryan, McCourty, Gregory and Collins, yes Collins.

I think the Pats are going to play nearly exclusively in nickle and dime and I think Collins is going to play almost all of the game and get the task of matching up with Julius Thomas.

I'm torn as to if the Pats will play a cover two or drop down Gregory and play just McCourty over the top. I think Bill will likely mix and match. For all the talk over the years about dink and dunk that's essentially what Manning has become. He will go deep and hit some but his percentage deep isn't what it was once upon a time with Harrison and Wayne.

Talib gets Demaryius Thomas again and Dennard will get Decker. Welker and Caldwell will fall to Ryan and Arrington. While I really like Arrington's physicality against the slot and his willingness to be just as physical against the run Ryan's instincts and ability to look for the ball make me want him in their more. I think he could be that player who gets the important pick that changes the game.

Hightower's role for this game is interesting. He drew a lot of criticism this year and some of it warranted and some of it was because the positional change and not having Mayo around. I really thought the last three games of the regular season he turned the corner and he was great against the Colts. That said I think they're going to concede yards to Moreno again and I still think he's a liability in coverage. They obviously aren't benching him but I think they have to find a creative way to make him effective.

The D-Line has a tough matchup. Credit the Broncos for dealing with all the injuries on the O-Line and having a great unit. They got knocked around in the regular season matchup and hopefully they can control their gaps a little better. Jones, Nink and Carter are going to have to find some consistent pressure. I'll be really interested in who the ref is for this game because Jones was held a lot with no flags in the first matchup. If it's called like that again and Manning has all day it's a major advantage to the Broncos.

On offense I'm hoping for balance and a lot of play action. I'm praying Josh doesn't decide to go empty backfield. I have no idea about Thomkins or Dobson's status but right now it's 3 slot receivers, Vereen and Hoo-man. I think Edelman and Amendola will both have to sneak downfield some but as we've seen it's harder to get those balls in to the shorter receivers. Brady has historically picked apart Del Rio defenses and I doubt he comes up with any wrinkles.

The O-Line is the key and is going to have to continue playing the way they have. If they can do that and stay penalty free to keep the Pats out of long distance situations they should be able to control the game and clock and frustrate Manning.

If Denver wants to play man coverage I hope the Pats use the conventional running back screen to slow down the Denver rush and make them pay for their aggression. I wonder if Vereen loses the ball in the lights easily. He seems to not see it on those wheel routes. I'd like to see some Kevin Faulk type calls.

    No Jersey Selected

I've got a busy week of work ahead, so I'll have to keep it limited to a Cliff's Notes version...

    Offense:
    1. OL - Contain Shaun Phillips and you give Brady enough time now that Von Miller is out.

    2. Stick with the run and use it to set up PA.

    3. Target whomever is replacing Harris, if he isn't playing. Hopefully Dobson is able to give it a go.

    Defense:
    1. Squat on the underneath routes. Welker and Demaryius should command a lot of attention while Collins covers Julius Thomas.

    2. Get out in front of those pick plays.

    3. Ninkovich and the rest of the DL must win one on one battles, expect the Denver OL to concentrate on taking Chandler out of the game.

    4. Disguise. Disguise, disguise, disguise!!

Agreed and especially on #2 which I forgot to mention. Denver will certainly adjust to the Pats using an additional player outside to combat that in the first matchup.

Agree 100%...and your # 2 on Defense, Denver was getting away with murder yesterday, SD had one minor brush....and they got an offensive P.I. , hopefully the refs call a good......and fair game!!

I hope it's Steratore but where he did the regular season game I tend to doubt it. I pray it's not Winter or Triplett.

On paper Denver should win because now we're even weaker compare to when we beat them in OT last November. If we can get the run going and don't fall behind and don't fumble like last time and no penalty, we have a chance. Red zone offense will be huge, with thompkins, Rob and Dodson gone i hope this doesn't turnout like when we failed at Miami. My expectation are low, i just hope we don't make it easy for them like San Diego failed to score until the 4th quarter.Gut feeling tells me the healthiest team will go the superbowl and win:(.

    Disable Jersey

Via footballzebras.com, Tony Corrente and Gene Steratore are slated to do the games. What assignment each has is not yet known.

The patriots should look at videotape of how rex ryan brilliantly shut down the pats on 2010 and use it on this broncos short passing offense.

That game plan should work against the broncos.

Peyton will inevitably get greedy. He can't help himself. He'll throw long into double coverage when he doesn't need to. One, you can't allow a completion there. Two, intercept that ball. The Chargers had an easy INT and dropped it on a very bad decision by Peyton. He always does it. He is not satisfied with throwing the short stuff. Eventually, he'll try to be a hero.

    Corrente isn't the worst but....

The Pats had Steratore vs the Begals and Broncos and Corrente again the Saints and @ Miami.

Broncos had Corrente @ SD and had Steratore vs Giants and the Pats.

Seattle had Corrente vs Houston and Steratore @ STL

SF had Corrente @ NO and didn't have Steratore.

Given how the NO game went down and the bogus flag against Brooks on his hit against Brees I doubt he gets that game. Funny thing is if you ask NO fans he jobbed them against the Pats and a lot of Pats fans weren't happy with his no calls at the end of the Miami game. But the NO\SF was the highest profile because the 49ers take after the other Harbaugh led team when it comes to whining.

    Giants vs. Patriots 2007 SuperBowl.

Run the ball to eat and control the clock. Keep the ball out of Peyton Mannings hands. Heavy dose of Blount, Ridley, Vereen.

Tire out their defense with the run. Set up play action for passing.

And pressure the hell out of Peyton Manning. Chandler Jones, Jamie Collins, Hightower, Ninkovich need to play the game of their lives.

I'd like to see Ryan in there a bit more.

He's got more picks than Arrington on the season. We NEED turnovers in this game and he's more likely to get one. On the flip side however, Arrington does have the experience when it comes to defending Welker (in practice + last game). Manning also might try to "pick" on Ryan because he's a rookie, which could hopefully backfire and end up with Ryan picking HIM again. His number of INTs this year speak for themselves.

I'd be looking to implement something similar to SB36 (within current rules). I want our DBs brutalising Denver's skill position players. Giving up a few early penalties (if absolutely necessary) to rough them up and put doubt in their minds will do me just fine.

Also, the Patriots need to smash Manning. Every opportunity they get, I want to see him on the deck.
