Stupidist thing in the NBA is the 15 player roster ... what a waste of time that is ... nobody wants to watch guys 11-15 play full court anyways.

The NBA dearly needs an amateur league ... but that is way to costly.

I think this would work if they tried it:

12 player roster with a 4 man practice squad. Before every game the team designates a 10 man roster.

the 2 left off + 4 practice players play 30 minute pre-game of
3 v 3 half-court game.

1 ref only.

Added expense of 1 practice player to pay and travel.

Added expense of 1 referee ... the NBA could use this as a ref in training program.

I say the fans would come earlier to see these young kids play some ball.

The practice squad would have age limitations ... like under 26 or 28

It's an interesting idea, but I doubt the NBA would ever do something of its sort - their idea of entertainment is shooting T-Shirts into the stands during timeouts (but who can argue with that? ;) ).

The NBDL sort of serves this role with the exception of the entertainment aspect. I'm all for the expansion of the NBA into having some legit minor league/development systems.

It's a decent idea, especially after Isiah ran that other basketball league into bankruptcy.
