COLUMBIA, S.C. — An unemployed military veteran who raised no funds and put up no campaign website shocked South Carolina's Democratic Party leadership by capturing the nomination Tuesday to face Republican U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint in November.

With nearly all precincts reporting, Alvin Greene, 32, commanded 59 percent of the vote against 41 percent for former four-term state lawmaker Vic Rawl, 64, who had raised about $186,000 and had to abruptly scrap a late-week fundraiser for the fall.

State Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler said voters unfamiliar with either candidate may have voted alphabetically for Greene over Rawl.

"As far as I know, he never showed up at anything. Vic Rawl has been campaigning everywhere from the time he filed," she said.

What this is...is classic grass roots campaigning.

Easier to blame the voters(which is what the chairwoman was doing) than to blame the candidates there.

Either candidate is going to be cannon fodder for DeMint, he has a sustainable hold or better on the seat in most projections.

Yeah, but thats OK, it was probably the Cops fault, if they push this it will be "party time" again for Little Tub Of Sh!t Sharpton & The Reverend Jessie Jackoff, having President Jug Ears in the White House practically put those two Racist Bastards out of business........

    Wierd.

About the felony...showing a college student some porn is a felony? What college student has not seen porn before? Not saying it isn't wrong, but a felony? This country needs to get a grip and start acting like grownups.

I suspect that no one of note is willing to run against DeMint, and Greene's name was first alphabetically on the ballot.

The head of the Dem SC party is requesting he withdraw. He may have left the military on a non voluntary basis.

My roomates committed felonies on a daily basis! It seemed to be an ongoing contest to see who could find the grossest thing on the internet and try and make me puke. I dry heaved and looked away often, but they never got me to puke!
I wonder if I can press charges...

I dont know...its odd, thats all.

guy has a pending felony charge
    did ZERO campaigning
    gets 59% of the vote

for a guy who didnt campiagn to get that percentage....it should raise a flag, he claims he put up the 10k himself...and cant tell you much about what he did to get that many votes..

I smell a rat, but thats usually par for the course.

    Think about this...

When "Dick Sweat" won a seat in NH, one could understand that his name alone got an obscure candidate elected. Peopel walked into the booth, and voted for him, because of his funny name.

this guy has NO name, NO campaign, NO person who had ever heard of him...

    Alvin Greene?

If his name was ALVIN CHIPMUNK, or POOPY GREENE....I could understand a victory...

but this all doesnt add up.
