I do not claim to know near as much as some of you guys on this board, but I love the draft and I wanted to get some feedback on my Big Board as I see it for the Patriots. There are some guys not on there (Matt Ryan) because I just do not see the patriots taking him any sooner than the 3rd round and there is no way he would fall that far. If I have missed anyone that you feel deserves to be on this list or guys on the list that shouldn't, I would really like some educational input on why or why not. So here goes.

Pick 1-5
None

Picks 6-10
Jake Long-OT
Chris Long-OLB- I would place C Long in the top 5.
Vernon Gholston-OLB
Keith Rivers-OLB/ILB- In any other year he would be 21-32. He would be a solid ILB, but not great in the Pats system imo.
Glenn Dorsey-DT
Sedrick Ellis-DT

Picks 11-20
Leodis McKelvin-CB
Derrick Harvey-OLB
Ryan Clady-OT
Branden Albert-OT/OG

Picks 21-32
Gosder Cherilius-OT - A spot early IMO. I see him as a solid RT. More early 2nd
Chris Williams-OT - I don't really see a fit for him. More of a zone blocker than drive blocker (I realise that we spent the 1st 75% of the year doing more zone blocking).
Rashard Mendenhall-RB
Phillip Merling-OLB - I don't see him as having enough quickness to play OLB. Stud DE in the right system.
Jerrod Mayo-ILB
Antoine Cason-CB
DRC-CB
Mike Jenkins-CB
Kenny Phillips-S - 2nd round talent. Really underachieved this year. Makes me uncertain.

Second Round
Quinton Groves-OLB
Cliff Avril-OLB
Dan Connor-ILB
Curtis Lofton-ILB
Patrick Lee-CB
Brandon Flowers-CB
DaJuan Morgan-S - Flavor of the month I guess. I don't know enough to really argue this one.
Chris Johnson-RB
Mario Manningham-WR
John Carlson-TE - I don't see any TE's w/ a second round grade.
Fred Davis-TE - See above.

Sam Baker-OT
Chilo Rachal-OG

Third Round
Ray Rice-RB
Jamaal Charles-RB
Brad Cottom-TE
Oneil Cousins-OT
Lawrence Jackson-OLB
Marcus Harrison-DT
Dre Moore-DT - I believe a bit early.
Beau Bell-ILB
Tracy Porter-CB
Aqib Talib-CB
Chevis Jackson-CB
Charles Godfrey-CB
Thomas DeCoud-S
Tom Zbikowski-S

Fourth Round
Darrell Robertson-OLB - OLB????
Shawn Crable-OLB
Ahtyba Rubin-DT - I like him as a sleeper. More in the 5th round range.
Red Bryant-DT
Jonathon Goff-ILB
Jack Ikegwuano-CB - Off my board.
Justin King-CB
Trae Williams-CB
Josh Barrett-S
Chad Henne-QB
Donnie Avery-WR
Andre Caldwell-WR - I think he'll go late 2nd- early 3rd and be a good player. Not sure if we need receivers at that level.
Eddie Royal-WR
Craig Stevens-TE
John Greco-OG

Fifth Round
Justin Forsett-RB
Owen Schmidt-FB
Jacob Hester-FB - I don't know that he is a need, but he can do a lot of things well. Whether he could make the team out of tc is another question.
Dexter Jackson-WR - See Hester
Geoff Schwartz-OT
Chad Reinhart-OG
Mike Pollack-C
Brian Johnson-OLB
Stanford Kegler-OLB
Ezra Butler-OLB - Off my board
Marcus Howard-OLB
Kendall Langford-DE
DeJuan Tribble-CB
Jack Williams-CB
Craig Steltz-S

Sixth Round
Marcus Griffin-S
Kenny Iwebema-DE
Kirk Barton-OT
Kerry Brown-OG
Kory Lichtensteiger-C
Steve Justice-C
Harry Douglas-WR
Chauncey Washington-RB
Kevin O’Connoll-QB

Seventh Round/UFA
Paul Smith-QB
Colt Brennan-QB - I don't see this as a fit.
Todd Blythe-WR
Brian Mulligan-TE
Brandon Keith-OT
Matt Spanos-C
Tommy Blake-OLB
Marcus Dixon-DE
Bryan Mattison-DE
Jason Shirley-DT
Jameel Mclain-ILB
Jay Lehman-ILB - might want to move him up a round
Jonathon Zenon-CB
Durant Brooks-P
Mike Dragosavich-P

Comments are in italics. Just my views so don't take it as anything more. Pretty nice list. I think their are some OL'men in the 3-4th that you should look at a little to see if you might add them.
Sam

Thanks for the suggestions. I know that there are a lot of good O-line prospects, and for me that is the hardest to figure out because it is tough to find tape on them and know there scheme in college.
I love Rubin for this team, that is why I have him graded probably higher than most, but I just think he is the perfect backup for Wilfork.
Why is Ezra Butler off your list? I was just wondering.
I like chris long, but there is no one in this draft that I would trade up for, and he does not have a good enough pass rush to move up for.

Thanks again for taking the time to look at this.

Hey I went to college but...
"Apr 7, 2008 ... Ezra Butler has been taken off of many teams draft boards, because he said that Marijuana is a part of his diet."
Someone looking towards a million dollar contract should learn to curb his appetite, or be smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

That's a very good board. 100% IMO,no. But not enough to nit pick about.

The one guy who the Patriots could/should draft in the later rounds is Jack I. CB Wisc. He will probably have to sit out a year but will be well worth the pick going forward.

I used Jack I. because I don't have anything here at the office to spell his name correctlly or even come close.

EDIT: Never mind: Jack Ikegwuano-CB, you had him listed.

I know these take work, so it's always impressive.

Personally, if you think the earliest the Pats would look at punters is the seventh round, then I think you might as well take Brooks and Dragosavich off your list; the last few years, teams have gotten spooked and started taking the Ps and Ks in the fourth and fifth rounds.

I just think that with the punters, they can find someone on the street to fill the job, like last year, but if one of those falls to the 7th, then maybe drafting one would be an option.

FBOFW, they don't need someone to "fill the job"; they signed Hanson last summer to a two-year deal.

I have both Long's in the 1-5. If the price is right, I would trade up for either one.

I dunno know about C.Long, I have kinda fallen out of love with him. I don't see him as much of a pass rusher and he seems to have reached his potential as for what he can do. I think he will be good, don't get me wrong, but not a top 5 pick to me.
