I came up with this little bit last night when I first heard the official announcement. Ignore the seismic evidence accumulated thus far today (which, if anything, supports my theory)... I think either the whole thing is either a fake or it was a legitimate attempt that resulted in a failure. The reason I think this is because of their official annoucement. The translated text of the official announcement reads, in part, as follows: "It has been confirmed that there was no such danger as radioactive emissions in the course of the nuclear test, as it was carried out under scientific consideration and careful calculation." That statement seems a little bit like pre-emptive excuse making. IMHO, they know our spy planes aren't going to pick up any radioactivity so they're trying to explain it away in advance. It reminds me of the employee who starts coughing on a Thursday because he knows he wants Friday off and will be calling in sick.
