I have a little theory about this Spygate crap. I feel that all these fans of other teams aren't really as stupid as they act on the internet. These Patriot-Haters are much more negative when discussing the Patriots online than in person.

After Spygate, i would get crap here and there. Then after like 2 days, just about every single person i knew said "yeah it's nothing, everybody does that" or "if you aren't cheating you aren't trying" and "everybody steals signals, what's the fuss".
These are Bears fans, Colts fans, Packers fans and people who enjoy irritating me. My friends and I spend a lot of time trash talking and making fun of each other but Spygate is never brought up anymore. Everybody with half a brain knows it's complete b.s. and the Pats got hit way too hard for this.

I'll get sarcastic Bill "Belicheat" comments from my Colts buddy, but he can't help it, he's a colts fan and thinks Dungy is the world's greatest man.

My point is, People think they are toughguys on the internet and their desire to irritate people jumps to a very high level once they get online. People who are criticizing others and talking trash behind a monitor say things they don't believe, and things they wouldn't say in person b/c they know it's b.s.

If you do run into someone in person and they talk about cheating, then it's clear they are a moron and just don't have a clue. But the drama of Spygate is just so much stronger online... Even if you listen to the radio or watch tv it isn't as big of a deal as when you read an online article.

At least this is the way i see it....:singing:

ummm yeah so there really isn't a point to it, it's just something i noticed...
(I guess you could say that if you go online less the Spygate situation is less annoying, but then this site wouldn't like that very much.)

no, they are just as stupid offline. I have had people at the bar, at resturants, and other places talk about the pats cheating or how i should be ashamed to support them. There are not as many of them, and they are not as aggresive, but they are just as stupid

I have to agree with Keegs. At work we usually have ESPN on, and when they start talking Cameragate the other 3 guys (Giants, Steelers, Bucs fans)just start laughing because A. they know how it still pisses me off and B. it's just ridiculous.

Even when it happened, the worst I heard was "I know everyone does it, but your boys got caught" and "You relize it doesn't make your team look great, right?"; two points which I whole heartedly agreed with.

most fans realize stealing signs goes down to high school. my problem is with the arrogant dumbasses at espn. they really can't be this dense so, obviously they're pretending not to hear the truth.

The internet along with the advent of 24 hour sports news, they need something to fill their time and attract readers.. the Pats are the new favorite whipping boy, and any vitriol that attracts readers or viewers is a good thing for them.. even if it not correct.. consider most of the detractors, they are just trying to make a living by attracting viewers.. while here in NE we defend the pats, the bottom line is there are about 75% of the country who do not like, bad news sells newspapers, attracts news viewers, and people who comment on line.

I remember on the first sunday in Feb, when the Tomase story broke, forget who was on the panel.. but most said that taping a walk through would not give a team any advantage in a game.. Jimmy Johnson and the rest of his crew agreed...no one picked up on it.

This really is the case. I'm not worried about tomorrow. While all the spewing vitriol I get to read because I go on line is aggrevating, I realize that is all it truly is. Last night on the two local late night Sunday sports shows the concensus was it's all over but the kvetching. Even the meetings, including the one with Specter, are just formalities.

When Tom Curran went National Peter King warned him that you write for your audience. Which is also instructive as to which audience Tomase was persuing on the morning of February 2nd.

And incredible as it may seem, the vast majority sports fans I know don't spend endless hours on the internet, or listening to national sports radio programming or watching ESPN. That is really just the pervue of us hardcore fanatics...;) What some here really need to get their own grip on is the only people effected by what other fans and media are saying about NE are fans obcessed enough to be scouring postings on internet websites and message boards literally seeking detractors. And I would hope for their sakes they don't live their offline lives so consumed by what others think.

Look at last year, media creates a "bad boy" in the league for everyone to hate, the ratings go through the roof

Goodell's probably cleverer than he looks, and a lot more media savvy

You see this all the time with Premiership football in the UK ... its a way for the media to boost ratings and sell papers

Lot of hot air, nothing substantiated - everyone hates the pats, tv ratings when they play explode and the Pats get their whole 'siege' mentality they seem to thrive off anyway

Unfortunately the Pats came away with nothing but a great season-sandwich between 2 slices of embarrassment bread (SpyGate, SB42).

I find most people to be really stupid in person as well as on the internet. Maybe it's because I'm so smart.
