    Peoples Republic Of Cambridge:

Here's some gooey ga ga sh!t for you, I told you the Loons have fallen in love with this religion.

Imagine the kind and compassionate knee jerking liberals who squeal and blubber over an american cop slapping a scumbags face falling in love with a religion that in the year 2010 stills "Stones Women To Death"

    I'm flabbergasted:

Cambridge and San Francisco should be quaranteened and walled-off permanently!

What part of Cambridge schools already close for some Christian and Jewish holidays, and McGovern said he believes Muslims should be treated equally are you having trouble with?

To me, it's all based upon numbers. If the number or Muslim students is significant, then it's fine. But if there was just 1-5% Muslim student population, then it's stupid. You don't make policy around pleasing everyone.

Most school systems base their decisions around numbers. If a certain number of people would take the day off due to their religion, then it's not worth keeping open. At least that's what I read about school policy regarding religious holidays.

The Jewish School Holidays in this area, do not have much to do with
numbers, but more to do with tradition...

Really? Then show me the numbers....

I know Brookline has more Jewish holidays than other Boston schools. But that's the way it should be based upon the Jewish population of Brookline.

In that case perhaps you should read the entire article, PR, before you wall off Cambridge and San Francisco. (Although what SF has to do with anything here I fail to understand.)

For that matter - are you against the Cambridge schools closing for Jewish holidays? Jews are, statistically, a very small percentage of Americans across the nation.

I did read the entire article and saw it on the news last night.

But the percent of Jews across America has nothing to do with a local policy. But you're right on a national level and this is the very reason we don't have any Jewish national holidays. The Jewish population of Cambrige is the only relevant number.

Cambrigde, MA is very, very similar to San Francisco...just as an FYI for future reference.

The cities of Warwick, Providence and Cranston all celebrate the Jewish & Christian Holidays, but not the Muslim one's... the Jewish population has been decreasing in the past 10 years, the muslim population is below 1%...

Cranston for example is 1.5% Jewish..
Providence for example is 1.5% Jewish..

Nothing at all wrong with it. After all the Muslim religion is practiced by billions. I wonder what they call it on the calender though? I would wager a dollar that the words "Christmas" and "Easter" don't appear on the school calender. I would hope they would be just as concerned over this holy day not being identified. Weird how some things get acknowledged and dismissed all at the same time:confused:

Why on earth would a Sunday & Saturday holiday be listed? Everyone knows they have those days off, so take them off the list! They're supposed to be TEACHING kids, but that is stupid!

No, most in that area are in Brookline & Newton, years back Mattapan and Blue Hill Avenue down into Grove Hall were all Jewish, that is all African American now.

    Well, something's stupid, yeah.....

If you look, PR, the title of the page is HOLIDAYS AND IMPORTANT DATES.

    If it's a HOLIDAY, (i.e. a day off school) it's marked, HOLIDAY.

Yom Kippur and Easter are not HOLIDAYS. They are IMPORTANT DAYS. We know this because the HOLIDAYS say "HOLIDAY."

Harry feels the same way about Muslims as he does about blacks and Hispanics. Just watch the threads he starts.

My point is that a SCHOOL need only inform it's student of holidays that affect them. Not show them every holiday under the sun to edumacate them!

And if a jewish or christian kid doesn't know that yom kippur or easter fall Saturday & Sunday, then they're not really jewish or christian, are they?

Not really since there are at least 6 Jewish Synagogues in Cambridge. I think Harry's assessment may be off some.
